An Amazon brick & mortar Bookstore could have been a great idea, but it sounds like they didn’t think the customer service part fully through.
By all means, promote AmazonPrime and if a book isn’t available do say that it can be ordered on Amazon’s website/app and delivered directly to their home, or as a Kindle download. But, there are people who go to a brick & mortar store do so because they are not overly familiar with the ways of the internet and e-commerce.
How about just being of assistance to those who don’t know (yet) how to order something on amazon, and helping them to make that order instead of just saying: “go order it on amazon from your own home”? If they already knew how to do that, they probably wouldn’t have walked into your store in the first place.
