  1. It’s the reporter’s fault for getting body slammed because he didn’t give Gianforte a trigger warning before asking a question. Shame on Ben Jacobs!

  2. First of all, Amberia is great and should definitely be on more.

Secondly, TYT should also talk about how the Democratic party lost the Montana election for Quist. The GOP outspent the Dems by millions and I wouldn’t be surprised if Gianforte won a majority of his votes by name recognition alone. Quist was only behind by single digits and if the Dems had put more money into his campaign that could’ve pushed him over the mark. But the Corp Dems can’t stand the idea of having a real progressive in Congress. They would even prefer a Republican over an anti-establishment Democrat. Pathetic.

    1. Make Amberia Great Again! I’m with Her! (Second time I’ve used that line in as many days… works so much better for TYT hosts than for the original candidate….)

  3. Awesome banjo music! TYT should have some to go with old glory flying on the screen behind. As Merican as apple pie.

  4. I misread, thought GOP guy overspent DEM guy, opposite is true? Now let me think of another reason why he lost…

  5. Really appreciate you guys getting this out a few hours after airing :)
I’m not sure about the difficulties in doing that or if its possible every night but I often miss the live airing and would love if you kept it up!

  6. For once I’d love to hear Ben compliment Bernie with no fucking qualifications. He was wrong about Hillary and making up nitpicky useless critizisms about Bernie will never make Ben right about Hillary.

    1. What would be the value of that? There are plenty of people at TYT who have nothing but admiration for Bernie Sanders, and it’s not like Ben is anti-Bernie, but I appreciate his willingness to voice criticism of one of the most progressive politicians in America on one of most progressive shows on the internet. That’s a good a thing, a thing to be encouraged to prevent TYT from becoming an echo chamber and differentiate it from the establishment media, which treated Hillary as unimpeachable.

You’re reaction to the mildest criticism of Bernie seems to be rooted in animosity towards Ben for not thinking Hillary Clinton was the devil incarnate, which strikes me as extremely petty and churlish. Ben can be wrong about Hillary and still be right about Bernie, disagreeing with someone on something once should not mean you automatically disagree with them on everything else.

  7. Yesterday’s result in Montana confirmed what I have been saying here all along, progressives have no weight in the US public eye at least outside their bubble. Put a progressive against a rabid right winger and give him more money and he will lose 100% of the time. It happened last elections and will happen in the future.

Last year Gianforte ran the same state wide race (Montana governorship) with the exact same message against a moderate democrat and guess who won despite the Trump wave in Montana? The moderate Democrat Steve Bullock. The reason? People want a real Montanan speaking to them not some left coast elitist (who dominated the air waves beginning with Bernie). They want a Montanan who believes in gun rights, Oil exploration, low taxes and “Freedom” whatever the last word means. They want a politician who can deliver on politics not policy.

But Progressives and their purity tests will never understand this. In their minds the US is a left wing country and if you give them a left wing candidate he will win even in Appalachia. Well Montana is not Appalachia and not in the Rust belt, it is one of the few states that escaped the worse of the financial crisis of 2008 and Montanans like the way their lives go and will vote for the status quo.

Jordan, Tracey, Vigeland will now be crying like babies blaming everyone but themselves which is natural because science says that people’s belief in their bullshit is re-enforced when they are faced with facts that contradict their lala land version of reality.

Good luck in GA-6, you really need it.

    1. It is a highly encouraging result for progressives. 44 percent against Gianforte’s 51 percent is an excellent result in deep-red territory.

      > it is one of the few states that escaped the worse of the financial crisis of 2008

Let’s just see if they escape the next one, or any of the other crises coming down the pipeline.

      1. No it is not.

Quist ran against a guy who lost a state wide election against a democrat last year despite a 20 point Trump wave.

Quist ran against a guy who believes the earth is 4000-6000 years old.

Quist ran against a guy who believes that all forms of retirement should be abolition because “the bible told us Noah did not quit after 600 years of preaching”.

Quist ran against a guy who wants to end minimum wage.

Quist ran against a guy who thinks the 2nd republican HC bill is too soft and wants an even worse HC bill.

Quist overspent Gianforte by $3 million and dominated the airwaves.

Quist ran against a loon in a political environment and with a “progressive agenda” that said he should run away with the election as Cenk time and time again rants about.

Polls put him at 2-4% away from winning with internal republican polling and at least one pollster saying he was leading.

The reality however is that Gianforte and the other rabid right winger running won a combined 57% of the vote. Trump only won 55% of the vote and the turnout in both elections was about the same.

Now tell me again how is this a good result?

Sanders and the progressives are slowly hanging themselves by the rope that the establishment Dems have been giving it to them since January. GA-6 will be their doom.

        1. He’s certainly not the first rabid rightwinger to win an election. You make it out like it is earth-shattering somehow.

I like the fact that Gianforte is such a loony One Percenter who can’t keep his fists in check. Going forward from here, that will create more opportunities for the right kind of opposition.

          GA-6 will be their doom.

How could the outcome of a few local elections stop a whole movement? That’s not how it works.

          1. The fact that he is a loon and yet he still out-won Trump (if you include the other loon in the race), the loon-in-chief, that means you are not making progress at all.

As for GA-6 and the “movement” not dying, I am sorry to say movements die all the time. The Establishment gave Sanders and his supporters the wheel in every major election this year so far and with the exception of a number of meaningless legislature seats the results were not earth shattering.

Progressives and the progressive movement in general will survive only if they first embrace a thing called “Politics”, the art of doing what you can with what you got, secondly, if they admit to themselves how big and popular they are (which will hurt a lot) and finally understand that their opposition is monolithic and real and made up of real people with real convictions that they will never change no matter what happens.

        2. I can’t wait for Gianforte to sell off that public land!! It’s going to be so funny to hear all the local hunters acting confused. LOL, it’s going to be so great.

        1. You remind me of the Bolsheviks who turned on the Mensheviks because the Mensheviks were not Marxists enough.

The Mensheviks were the ones who brought the Tsar down.

You also remind me of Trotskites who tried to turn on the Bolsheviks because Bolsheviks were not Marxist enough.

In the end the only progressive you know will be youself because all the rest are corporate democrats.

    2. I agree with a small part of your anylsis. “The guy with more money wins.” The GOP spent what, 5mil to Gil’s 500k. You think that’s equal to whether he’s a progressive or moderate? Also, you incorrectly compare this race to Presidency. Clinton spent more and isn’t a progressive. Apples to oranges.

    1. The won’t admit it no matter how much evidence you give them.

Oh and Quist overspent Gianforte by at least $3 million, I thought people who spend more money win elections all the time because Cenk told me so.

      1. Then don’t complain when you continue to lose time and time again until there is nothing to win.

Montana had a choice between a classic neo-liberal and a die-hard progressive. Guess who won?

        1. I for one am not complaining. In the grand scheme of things, I think progressives and leftwing populism are roughly where they currently need to be. Small advances here and there but certainly not across the board and certainly not in every red state. We are still only in the earliest part of the ongoing destabilization and acceleration process of the political landscape as a whole (with some aid from Trump).

          1. Bad excuse because you can’t advance if you don’t win anything and so far, progressive won nothing.

The only disturbance the progressives are doing is to split the center and guess who wins when the opposition is fragmented?

            1. Lol, new parties take time to launch. Silly to give up because of little losses here and there. What are you trying to get at with that nonsense? Corporate Dems are shitbags as much as GOP repubs. There is no excuse to give up, and join either group.

  8. It really is no wonder that Trump(and his administration) mishandles intelligence, he has never had any before and doesn’t know what to do with it, the rest of the administration don’t want his voters to find out that they have any intelligence, they spent the last 30 yeas saying intelligence is evil.

  9. My dad saw Steve Martin live with his bluegrass band, and Ben is hilarious. and Ben you dont know Doug! I just made a Brett Erlich meme of him wearing his same shirt and sweater and hat as doug.

  10. Great show tonight!

The Prime Minister of Montenegro who Trump shoved is Prime Minister Dusko Markovic. Milo Đukanović is the former prime minister of Montenegro.

  11. Ana did not seem too prepared for the intelligence sharing segment. There were too many pauses and generic terms, making it seem like there was not enough prep to the segment. In addition, there was a key point to the story TYT missed, and reported on the BBC, that the name of the bomber was leaked and MI5 wanted at least 36 hours without the name published to make it easier to catch co-conspirators. That seemed much more important than leaks of fragments and components

  12. Regarding Gianforte’s assault against Ben Jacobs, and I really wish you guys would have featured this too, Shane Scanlon (the candidate’s mouthpiece) issued a statement blaming the victim, lying and claiming that Gianforte just tried to push the tape recorder away when Jacobs (whom he describes as a “liberal reporter”) grabbed at his arm. He claims Gianforte then fell on Jacobs because of Jacob’s aggressive behavior. Its absolutely ridiculous to straight up lie like that officially. The Fox News article itself was full of a biased position using negatively charged phrases against the reporter at the same time that they are reinforcing the victim’s version of events for the most part, which just shows that Fox News can never ever report anything neutrally, even when being truthful. They never even included the word “victim” at all.

  13. Ben is a much better balance to Ana than Cenk is. Ana will rein it in a bit with Ben, but with Cenk she knows she has full rein.

  14. First comment on TYT, I think.

Just wanted to say I loved this hour. It was good to see them have a little fun between the banjo conversation and air banjo performance, and the way they did that last story. Nice to see some levity.

  15. The reason Gianforte was “sick and tired” of answering questions about the AHCA is because the last time he did, he told Montanans one thing, and his donors something else, and it got him in trouble here in the state. Then he body slams a reporter over it. Way to make our state look good dude.

  16. Agreed, Amberia. At some point you have to meet people where they are. And if that’s ‘low’, that’s where you go.

  17. I fucking LOVE Bernie Sanders! He’s been fighting for us for decades! He definitely got the best of Mulaney but more importantly, brought out the truth! Truth to power Bernie! OBTW, Ben Mankiewicz can go fuck himself.

  18. @Ben about the “if they don’t wake up” and see the uprising from the have nots they will get something akin to 1968.

I see us as moving into 1967 as we speak, right when the American people started to understand the fucked up situation. At the end of January 1968 there was the Tet Offensive. And then from there after up to Watergate during 1974 there was a daily ongoing insane devolution.

  19. Nice hour. Cenk goes away and the show is instantly not a full hour of yelling at Trump. Actually interesting news I mostly hadn’t seen elsewhere today, and different points of view discussing it. Very nice.

I think all hosts had good points on the Bernie situation. It is difficult to craft a message, especially when, as Ana said, so few people are going to see this exchange. So do you craft a 2-second soundbite? Ben is right that if you list off too many specifics, the opponent can pick up on just one and make it look like they answered you. But Amberia is right that you need to personalize these things so people understand this is happening to them, to something that affects their life. All good points. It was so nice to see this on TYT instead of Cenk just yelling the same shit again.

    1. Personally, I’m always disappointed when Cenk isn’t on the main show. The show just ends up missing a lot of personality and oomph without him. Also, the shows tend to be longer when Cenk is involved, and I like getting more. That said, I’m glad Ben was there tonight, he does a great job.

  20. Sure the congressman yelled at the reporter, but was he ever charged with battery for punching the guy?

  21. I intend this only as a constructive suggestion: Please coach guest panelists on how to look at the correct camera. It seems like it doesn’t matter who it is–if they’re not a regular host of the show, they have no idea where to look and they give their entire comment to the wrong camera. All it would take is a few seconds to say “look at this camera when this light is on” (or however it works.)

  22. That ending with Ben was amazing.
I love it when the hosts can find a way to have some fun in this completely batshit news environment. Keep up the good work everyone!
