  1. I understand that Saudi Arabia is Cenk’s go-to example for all things theocracy, but this time he is completely wrong. While schools in Saudi Arabia do have a separate religion and scripture class, creationism is not taught in science classes. Those same classes exist in some American schools but they are after hours and optional (and its for a different religion). The issue in your story relates to teaching nonsense in the science class. Its unfortunate that you cannot find the distinction between the two scenarios.

Also there is a difference between being secular and abjectly anti-religion. For the latter, you are right you and Ana are in the minority. For the former, many people separate the science and politics from religion, but do keep what faith they have as a personal matter. You can be a published scientist, professor, and researcher and still practice your faith. Michael Faraday and Isaac Newton were religious, but the former never claimed magnetism was god-magic and the latter never said ‘well those planets just move that way because someone made them’.

Purely from what I have seen in the news while living in the US, I find myself perplexed why evolutionary biology and big bang theory are even taught in K-12 school? Both topics require an extremely advanced knowledge set in their fields to understand, so what is the point of bringing those topics up before college? Can you explain them to someone in middle school in a way that they will really understand, or is it just ‘scientists found this out so you must believe it’? Its really easy to blame the right without doing any introspection as to how these topics are taught and at what age level. Maybe all that energy and time should be spent teaching the scientific method so when they have the maturity and tools to understand why evolutionary biology is a thing.

  2. The increased number of “interracial marriages” in the US is heartening, but I don’t think you’re reaching the Great Blending yet. The US generally makes distinctions of race that aren’t present in Europe and other parts of the Western world. For example, an Armenian (Ana) marrying a Cuban (Christian) would not be considered “interracial” in most places — they’re both Caucasian.

So any increased acceptance is good, certainly, but all this figure means is that the US is finally entering the 20th Century.

  3. You want a team that talks about the Bible and the Quran? Look up the Bible reload and the Quran Reloaded. Jake and Hugo are already on top of it. PLEASE GIVE THEM A SHOUT OUT! They need it.

  4. I can understand why marriage amounts races makes sense. I like me my UK fair skinned girls, but there’s something about asian girls that’s VERY appealing. Not sure why i feel that way but I’d love to have a spunky strong willed Japanese (or other asian nationality) girl friend. Am I weird?

  5. To anyone attacking TYT for their disparaging comments on religion, I’d like to quote Sam Harris: “There is nothing I or anyone else can say that will infringe upon your right to practice your religion freely. But when YOUR religious precepts require that I behave in a certain way, that’s not freedom of religion, that’s theocracy.”

And to quote myself, “You’re free to believe in whatever fairy tales you want, but don’t expect the rest of us to take you seriously.”

The thing many atheists or agnostics don’t seem to understand when we talk about religion (and the thing that makes religious doctrine so dangerous) is this: heaven is not a metaphorical place to religious people. IT IS AS FUCKING REAL AS DETROIT. You will go there. It is a fact. It is undeniable to them. It is the same reason that Jihadists blow themselves up. Because they are going to a very real place and will receive a very real reward from a very real deity. People who have real belief in concepts like this border on mentally ill. Their beliefs are ridiculous, incredulous, and contrary to reality and fact. These people are the chains that bind modern society to the past and prevent us from moving forward.

As a disclaimer: spiritualism and religion are NOT the same thing, and my statements should not be misconstrued to apply to spirituality in general.

  6. Btw, as far as I can tell as a British citizen, we care less about ‘king and country’ than you guys do over your flags and presidents.

We aren’t very nationalistic, Brexit and racism aside. In terms of pro-Britain we never really go, Britain is great and you better shut up if you think otherwise. Maybe it is because great is in our name so we don’t need to say/feel it. :P Most people wouldn’t care about the loss of a monarchy, most of it is for tourism as other countries love our monarchy more than we do. Case and point, more American’s watched the royal wedding than British people did. – Bare in mind what the Moncarchy represent for your country…we stiffled your freedoms and there you are watching the royalty get married in awe.

Not to support the monarchy but the house of lords have blocked some anti-progressive acts from happening and the royal family, mostly Prince Harry, have done some good around the world. Other than that, they are a bit of a drain on resources because, as you mentioned, it was due to luck of the draw. – Thus why most Brits wouldn’t care about it if they absolved.

  7. Personaöly, fuck religion. Hey, you INSIST that everyone else must kowtow to these fucking religious nut jobs who DEMAND that you treat their fairy tales like they deserve any attention from anyone else. When ALL religious assholes stop damning atheists from their pulpits we’ll stop bitching about their fairy tales being made law.

  8. Regarding the interracial marriage thing, I cringed a little when people say “Well, I don’t care about your race, ethnicity”

Why not? Why do you assume by talking about someone’s ethnicity or background will bring forth negative consequences? I do not agree with the notion that talking about race, ethnicity, etc has to be negative. There are many positive aspects of racial differences, some that you can even joke about. For example, how many white people do you know is name Tyrone? Quincy? Ayesha? Demarcus? Hell, The police Cleon who found out that he was 18% black? C’mon, that was HILARIOUS.

Now, if you personally want to avoid learning about the history of your own race, that’s your personal choice and that’s okay. But, I think it would be better to simply learn the history and cultural differences among different races, and how society has treated them, fairly or unfairly, and it would further progress us as a society.

    1. One thing…don’t assume. In my very average sized circle of acquaintances, I know 3 Quincy’s. One is black, but the other two are white, one so pale that if he had different colored eyes you’d swear he was albino.

      1. I know two white dudes named Tyrone, and another one named Damone (not damon, btw). My problem with race being discussed the way it is in this country is that it is completely artificial, a social construct with no basis in genetics. Nationalities and ethnicities and ancestries are fine to discuss, especially when you assume a positive connotation, but fuck everything about race.

        1. Well, it’s certainly not how it came across.

This too, try living as a black person before you make the statement, “My problem with race being discussed the way it is in this country is that it is completely artificial,”

          1. Since I too may not have been clear, you’re genetics REALLY don’t matter to the point that you can be a very tanned white guy, be mistaken for Mexicano and jailed for a crime you never committed, and ONLY missed Prison when someone with more than three brain cells said ‘hey, a guys, his last name really sounds Germanic”.
That little stroll down memory lane was actually told to me by the Detective who arrested me. They hadn’t asked for ID, didn’t talk to me at all, just grabbed me because I fit an extremely vague description; and yes, it was only for a bare six hours; but the point is they only grabbed me in the first place because my skin gets really brown if I tan.

            1. That’s terrible, I’m glad they let you go and I think I can imagine what would have happened to you if you had been latino. This is why the whole system and idea of race has to die, because its not a real thing but a social construction based only on the color of skin and then used to create outsiders. Its a perfect example of that, thank you for sharing.

          2. Oops, my first response was meant to be to the OP not to you. So I’m confused by what you mean when you said “Well it’s certainly not how it came across.” Was that a response to me, or the OP?

The next part of your comment you directed at me for sure, since you quoted me. That was in response to the OP saying that race should be discussed in a positive light because he or she see’s the positives about race. I was trying to deconstruct that notion by pointing out the simple fact that race does not exist, it is an artificially created social construction based on extremely flawed research that genetics has completely invalidated. Unfortunately, this country has magnified that invalid concept of race so much, and the concept itself needs to be destroyed.

The OP mentioned positive associations one may have to their ‘race’, but that’s not true since race doesn’t exist. One may have positive or negative associations with ancestry or ethnicity or nationality, but the notion that one identifies with one’s race is nonsense and needs to be left behind. Cenk is a good example of someone who thinks about and discusses race openly, but has no identity because he doesn’t know where he fits in the artificial construct called race. He should really quit using that word completely. Its confusing to him because race is based on skin color, not ancestry or genetics. Is he white? Brown? A person of color? Technically, he’d be considered caucasian, or white, but that confuses him since his skin color isn’t white, but he’s from the Caucasus region, although one could argue based on the outmoded definitions that he’s mongoloid as well since the Turks were from Central Asia.

Now don’t make silly statements to people on the internet telling them to live as something they cannot, that’s like telling people to polymorph. I can only live as a what I am, but I can empathize and sympathize and use compassion and reason, which is how I approach my life. You had previously told the OP to not assume, then you assume that I’m not “black”, whatever black actually means. Do you mean as someone who identifies with the culture of African Americans, or just someone who has black skin or some African ancestry? This is another area where by simplifying to the irrelevant and artificial notion of race you make things less clear, and leave many more outsiders. The whole notion of it has to go.

  9. I fully agree with what you’re saying. I’m getting sick and tired of all the escalating and all-encompassing hate regarding anyone who is religious or spiritual. Every time Cenk or Ana goes into another rant about it, it takes a piece away from my support of them and makes me feel like not being a member anymore. I know plenty people of many faiths who haven’t and will never support the wicked and corrupt establishment media or government.

    1. I think the reason he and Ana criticize religion is mostly when it’s used as a reason or excuse to change laws within the government or when people try to push their own religious agenda onto others.

    2. I hear you, but it has been a while since they’ve gone on such a huge condescending rant like this. Unfortunately, people that profess to be religious in this country often set a very bad example for the majority. This goes for a lot of groups, and the people they’re referring to in their segment really are setting a horrible policy.

  10. Yes, Alex did. He ignited an effective witch hunt, pitting hyper-paranoid vocal xenophobes against all Muslim immigrants within the community… As well as castigating supporters of immigration . The miniscule group of locals went international with their ravings, attracting attention based on almost nothing except Alex’s exaggeration and lies. Alex accused naturalized citizens like the founder of Chobani as being nothing but secret ISIS lovers. This has been going on now for over two years.

  11. I don’t know about you folks but I’d like everyone to come and join the Resistance but if you go around being cocky, superficial, and elitest about religion, people will fall away in droves. They will stop listening to our side of the political story.

Trust me I’ve been a member of the Resistance since before you were born. Not everyone with a religion is a knothead. In fact some of the chief protestors against racism, war, and injustice in American history have been clergy and believers.

Our country has freedom of religion embedded in it’s structure. That means nobody has the right to interfere in the worship of others or the lack there of within the bounds of the law. Since the beginning we have believed in separation of church and state therefore state run schools should not teach religion. It has nothing to do with whether one is religious or not, it has to do with running a government without extraneous bias.

And besides everything else, making fun of people’s religion is in remarkably bad taste and will drive away many who we would like to join us in resistance but just can’t take your prejudice against their having a religion.

    Knock it off.

By the way, I watch The Young Turks for news and commentary and therefore am not the least interested in FUN stories about fashion or some monarch in a tank top particularly when the piece they cut tonight had to have been far more interesting. With Trump and who knows what all happening in politics daily to be informed about, get a bloody grip. I don’t watch The Young Turks for froth. If Ana has to have her brand of fun and doesn’t find it in political discourse and important news maybe she shouldn’t be on this particular show but on another for people who want to hear and talk about a King’s tank top and onesies for men.

    1. I do agree that Cenk (and staff) should keep their desparaging remarks about religion to shows like Old School, or even just the Post-game. I’m athiest, but I want my news show to be more focused and not insulting to any group (except conservatives in general who vote against their interest, but I’m half kidding their because they’re brainwashed and that’s not completely their fault, fuck you Roger Ailes, glad you’re dead).

I agree even more with your last paragraph, when shows are running long and stories are being cut, lets keep the identity politics and “fun” fashion stories out, or save them for the postgame. Identity politics drives me nuts, especially since both left and right constantly and correctly accuse the other side of using them. Gross.

    2. The hosts have a right to be critical of religion and bad ideas in general. They are free to speak their minds just like we are all free to worship or not as you please. Ana and Cenk are never mean or say derogatory things about religious issues or people; they are simply critical and attack bad ideas. I totally agree with Cenk when he talked about how religious people get so touchy and how ridiculous it is. If you claim to have an all powerful, all knowing “God” on your side, you should be super confident and secure, and not cry about drawings of your god, or taking your god’s name in vain, etc. If people really believed in their deity, they would that shit go, right?!

Also, the 2nd hour of this show has actually become more and more serious over time. In the early days it was almost strictly pop-culture/fluff news. I guess you’d know that if you have been watching the show longer or knew more about TYT history.

Much love to ya, friend. Knotheads come in all shapes and size and of all backgrounds (agreed). Religious ideas just tend to lean toward the loony side of things…

      1. I love the irony of your condescending comments defending Cenk and Ana’s condescending comments on religion

    3. I hear what you are saying, but which voices do we hear from more in this country: religious or atheist. People are absolutely within their right to practice their religion and to be proud of it. However, atheists have a voice too and we get tired of seeing all the religion in this country (its on our currency for Pete’s sake!) and then hearing that it hurts the feelings of religious when atheists talk about our side. I agree we shouldn’t denigrate people for their beliefs. That needs to include atheists too

  12. BTW Cenk, the last part about Muhammed and the mountain is completely wrong lmao, that is not mentioned in the Quran at all, it’s a phrase from Francis Bacon in the 1600s, made to mock Muhammed and his faith. Just thought to clear that up for everyone..

    1. I was going to post this, but I see you beat me to it.

It hurts Cenk’s credibility immensely when he first attacks religious people for not believing in facts, then immediately attacks a religion with a bigoted, and non-factual, anecdote. I wish he would stick to talking about what he knows – politics – instead of constantly putting his foot in his mouth on topics like science and religion. At least when it comes to science he admits his ignorance, though that doesn’t stop him from putting nonsense out there. It isn’t so much that it is tiring, it’s that he drives away intelligent people he might otherwise reach. If I wasn’t familiar with TYT, and I only watched a video like the one they’ll post on YouTube on this topic, I would avoid their content in their future, because that overbearing guy clearly doesn’t know he’s talking about – and that’d be a shame.

      1. Yepp i agree. His hate for Islam/religions is clearly personal, and that definitely comes across at times aha

    2. Actually, you just muddled the waters. Francis Bacon, one of the foremost early proponents of the scientific method in Europe, was making a point about being willing to change your mind in the face of evidence to the contrary, and he was praising Mahomet for being flexible, in contrast to many of his contemporaries. Also, probably quoting a Turkish proverb with much the same meaning.

      1. Sorry maybe i got the wrong person as the origin of the phrase, but i’m sure it is NOT a quote from the Quran. Which is what Cenk was trying to take the piss out of tbh..

        1. Oh, sure. Cenk was being sloppy and ignorant. It’s also annoyingly ironic that he used the quote as an example of superstition, when the original intent was exactly the opposite, and a much more refined version of the point Cenk was trying to make.

          1. Dammit. I reread the Bacon quote more carefully. I misinterpreted the 16th century English. It is probably a mockery, although a general mockery of people who make grand promises, then fail, then show no shame. Mahomet, in the proverb, is included in the mockery, although mostly as a historical allusion to illustrate the point. My bad.

        2. Pardon the duplication. I hit the wrong reply button.

  13. “And the people of Twin Falls Idaho” — did Alex Jones talk shit about the town itself? Like the average citizen was part of some yogurt conspiracy?

  14. I always agree with Ana–do you boo!!!!

Can’t wait for the insta pics of Hasan in a romper bc you KNOW he’s going to love them! Lol.

    Love this show so much:)

  15. Cenk you should read up on Thailand’s royalty. They have done many great things for that nation. The crop too thing is dumb I agree.

  16. Cenk, check out some info on Thailand she king and do some reading on it. You may be surprised at what you learn. The royalty of Thailand have been a progressive good influence on the well being of that nation for some time. I do agree the crop top thing is a bit childish.

  17. Hmm.. let’s make a male fashion thing even more douchier than the man bun. I got it: romphim!

I’m not getting down on cross dressers, rompers are just for women. And those dudes in the ads make me want to not be human anymore. Rompers are for women. Man buns are for samurai. Not millennial men

  18. The romper debate— men would absolutely hate this due to the constant “adjusting” they would need to do. I’m a big gal and with certain cuts, prints, etc were OK but I’d say that was about 95% weren’t acceptable. I just can’t comprehend a heavier guy wearing one due to the lack of curves in the right places– just my opinion– do agree– you do you boo!!!!

  19. Regarding the romper story, who. gives. a. fuckkkkk. This is not news. Stick to actual news.

  20. About Alex Jones, let me clarify the perversion of the English language for you. A “performance artist” is a mime, a street musician, a stage actor, BUT NOT SOMEONE WHO CLAIMS TO PORTRAY THE TRUTH!!! That just makes him a liar and scam artist, who happens to do real harm to thousands and he should be charged, in court, for doing harm to the public good. He doesn’t have that kind of following and NOT do harm with his lies.

  21. I wish Cenk just did the two hours on his own. The 2nd hour is always identity politics and nonsense stories with Kasparian being outraged, it’s so tiresome. I watch the entire full 1st hour, and get through the 2nd hour in about 3 minutes.

  22. Cenk, a romper only really looks good on women who are fit, too. Let’s be clear, no-one with a gut, including me, would look good in a romper. I love them, and I feel like Ana about them. Do you, but they are not going to be flattering on anyone with a gut. The cut draws the eye straight down the middle. Get real. Material and cut on anyone, makes ALL the difference.

  23. I thought body-con stood for body contour dress. Not body concious. Wow. That changes my opinion of the dress.

  24. Another needless comment now that I watched the whole hour lol.

So could I use the same law to demand that the schools NOT teach creationism? Could I as a parent (if I were one) bring up complaints that I don’t want my kids learning this? Or that I did want my children to learn about climate change? Like if it’s supposed to be about freedom I say the best possible way to protest this is get parents that believe in science to use the law to demand that fake science not be taught in schools. Obviously, it wouldn’t work because this is clearly not about freedom, just food for thought.

    1. Hey Alex Jones, I know a great yogurt brand if you are thinking of ever trying to eat healthier.

  25. Regarding the interracial marriage story, thank you for clarifying at the end. I know that you folks don’t intend to make it sound this way and of course it’s a fantastic thing, but sometimes when you talk about interracial marriage, it comes off that you think it’s BETTER. Personally, I never dated in my own ethnicity until I met my husband, and I happened to fall in love with someone who happens to also be Japanese; not because I had a type, and not because my culture dictated it, but because he was the best person for me. When I think about the reasons I love him, his ethnicity doesn’t factor into that. Just sharing a different perspective. Cenk put it well, just fall in love with whomever you choose.

Love you guys and thank you for what you do!

    1. Thank you, Jen, I was going to mention this too. My husband and I are both white but it was not by design. He dated women of other races and I dated men and women of other races. It just happened that we met, fell in love, and were happy. I do agree that the more we have interracial marriage the better it is overall but if you happen to marry inside your race like that’s fine. So I am with you thank you guys for adding that marry who you love that’s all it needs to be about!

      <3

  26. About RompHim thing I think it’s fine. I actually like that men are starting to get into more “girl” clothing. Like wear what you want and enjoy. Just like more men wearing makeup think that is GREAT. Do I find the RompHim attractive, no but I am not looking so what does it matter single girls might love it so go for it dudes. I disagree with brumjo that only gay guys will wear it sorry you are 1000% wrong.

On the other hand I agree with Cenk. I am a woman that is overweight and working on losing weight, it’s a slow process (unlike gaining it) and it sucks. You already have self-esteem issues and then basically no clothes are designed to look good on you and it compounds it. It becomes very discouraging and can push you off the right track. Be it the RompHim the skinny jeans the whatever it may be. It would be nice to see the fashion industry shift a bit but it is what it is.

  27. Cenk, about the “RompHim” thing: men wear overalls on the farm. Nobody says anything against that. Some mechanics used to wear “RompHim” that had long pants (did they also call those overalls as well?). I remember in the 1970’s those mechanic overalls/things were a short-lived fashion trend.

But you are right: no straight guys are going to wear “RompHims”. Gay guys will though.

  28. Love Ana’s top tonight, so cool. Its funny that when they were discussing fashion, I was thinking how much I hate fashion and think its utterly useless, but when someone wears something interesting and wears it right, like Ana tonight, I gotta admit that I love it.

    1. I am going to kind of disagree… Like I think we get way too obsessed with fashion but it can be nice. I don’t like a lot of the shady stuff the industry does, however, self-esteem is important. If you feel like you look good it can do great things for your confidence. It shouldn’t be the only way you get self-worth of course but it can be nice. When I first started gaining weight I gave up on fashion completely and it snowballed. I never felt good about myself so why care. Then I bothered to go out and get some stuff that looked good (as limited as those options were, see my other comment) and it helped me feel better about myself and helped motivate me to want to feel even better and lose weight etc. I don’t think fashion should ever be “it” for a person but over the years I have stopped seeing it as worthless. However that’s just my opinion and it’s no more or less valid than yours lol
