I love old school, but I am a mid-twenties viewer. Hearing their stories of nonchalant rejection – the interview seems great, the conversation was fantastic, you feel like you nailed it, and then nothing comes of it – i can’t help but feel mild schadenfreude. That’s how every interview I’ve ever been on seems to go! Maybe that’s just today’s style, because if that surprises them… what did interviews used to be like?
Up with the sun, down with the moon – Barbados maan
Sometimes I get pissed off at Michael Shure or Ben Mankiewicz’s take on politics, but their entertainment stories are thoroughly entertaining.
I liked this panel very much! The show-biz stories were pretty engaging and as a consumer of the entertainment industry, this is another little behind-the-scenes look. Lots of history and found out stuff on their backgrounds I never knew. These guys work really easily together and this episode was funny and quite entertaining!
Shout out from Omaha, Nebraska! I loved this Old School, it’s nice to hear stories from people with vastly different lives than your own.
Best old school ever!
Agreed, it is in my top 10 episodes.
I don’t understand the negative comments. This was entertaining. Thumbs up from me.
same here :)
Dude, chill!
It’s “Old School” for a REASON.
I’m a big fan of Ben in North Charleston, and I have to say I had no idea he was ever on TV here. Though maybe I was a little too young, but I did remember Charlie Hall and some of the other names he mentioned. Sorry Ben.
Screw this panel for an Old School. TYT needs to balance Ben or Michael with Cenk or Jimmy Dore. Putting both Ben and Michael without a strong progressive was unbearable. Every episode of Old School needs a strong progressive.
dude there barely was any political commentary
disagree. I loved it
The point of Old School isn’t to talk politics, and they didn’t even do much of it, so no. This lineup was great.
They didn’t talk politics, there’s really no need for a “progressive voice” when it’s just three friends chatting.
Aw. I miss Gina Grad. Not enough to listen to Carolla though.
I love Gina Grad but can’t stand Adam so I haven’t heard from her in years.
Gina Grad would be fantastic on Old School. What a tease.
So glad Ben is back! I missed him on WTF…especially for The Americans recaps.
@19:45 you ask “does this happen in normal business?”
When I did interviews for programmers, if I decided they were insufficiently skilled, I always said, “someone in HR will get back to you.” To be fair, I think someone in HR would get back to them to reject them eventually, but I sure as sheep wasn’t going to say it.
From the other end, I have interviewed for maybe 20 or so jobs and only one never called me back. The other ones that I didn’t pass muster on mailed me a form letter from HR rejecting me.
Well that was a bit enjoyable, but I have to say as someone that lives in the midwest, it was wholly unrelateable. I’d like to wish Mark Thompson luck finding work.
Most insular Old School ever. Sorry, didn’t entertain me at all.
Any Old School Jimmy Dore is not on is one where I am let down.
BEN ! :)
Glad Old School is finally up! Wish it would get on the website a little earlier, but so it goes. Love the panel! Ben needs to be on more often again.
