Kim Horcher and Tim Frisch talk new Wonder Woman movie, Fyre Festival lawsuit, Orange is the New Black season 5 leaked, questions about Injustice 2, J.K. Rowling Fantastic Beasts spoilers, and Oculus skipping E3.
So asking people to comment if they torrent is not a good idea since they could be confessing to a crime. That being said, I thought a lot of great points were mentioned but there are 3 caveats:
1- Today there are many devices and apps that stream to your television (e.g. appletv, shieldtv…etc) so watching content from your PC, laptop, or even tablet on the big screen has never been easier. Some of the applications on said devices provide an amazing experience by downloading meta data like show descriptions, cover art and automatically sorting and filing all your shows into the correct season, genre…etc.
2- I agree completely that making paid content easily accessible online encourages consumers to pay for it rather than go to pirated content. But that is only half the story, since Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and other streaming services still use regional restrictions on content. This regional-based distribution scheme is left over from the VHS days and has no place in the internet age. So you have consumers in other countries perfectly willing to pay for content but they are not allowed to. So they either wait until it becomes available in their local market, possibly edited/censored for local sensibilities, or they find other means. So not a concern if you live in the USA, but this is a real issue in the rest of the world. If I pay the same as everyone in the US for Amazon Prime or Netflix, why can’t I see the shows on release and still have to wait a year later?
3- Being able to download content in its entirety means you can obtain the highest resolutions to match that new big screen you got. With streaming you are limited to the speed of your connection, which for many means you have to make do with 720p or even 480p
Sorry for the wall of text. Great show and I hope it grows. Kim does great work on the main show as well.
Oculus is not going to E3 because they are a failed company. It’s not a bad thing for E3 it’s because they are completely irrelevant. Oh no a failed company being replaced by other VR is not going to be at a gaming expo must mean that expo sucks… not really how it works. Also E3 used to be open to the public, being a private event was actually a very recent move. E3 was more popular in the past by your own admission and a lot of that was based on it being an open event. I’ve always found E3 a bit overhyped but it’s still a cool thing. I am excited to see what happens and I honestly couldn’t care less about Oculus not being there. I might have been more bothered by them having a presence actually.
I am actually pretty excited for Wonder Woman which surprises me. I have a very casual relationship with comics (more passion for graphic novels) and I never read any of the WW series. However, the one DC series I read a lot of was Batman and I have not liked a Batman movie since Keaton. I know everyone disagrees with me but I thought the Nolan movies were not good. I was already over DC but WW has grabbed my interest.
