O’reilly Factor probably didn’t come back on the air because the tease for the next segment was about Jesse Watter’s interviewing Spring Breakers and knowing Fox News it was probably nothing, but young girls wearing bikinis and some of the higher ups at Fox News probably realized that wasn’t the best segment to air on Bill O’reilly’s show at this time.

  8. I’m wondering why such a big piece of the show was devoted to the most unimportant piece of information: “the missing 15 minutes of O’Reilly”. Come on. For the first time I almost felt embarrassed for TYT. Yes, we can gloat for a few minutes about what’s going on (I did), but let’s move on.

One of my 3 TYT pet peeves (first two are Ana overutilizing the word “utilize” and people not spending 5 seconds before reading a story to transliterate how to pronounce a foreign word or name) is when they talk about technology without knowing the nomenclature, and go off on some tangent that makes no sense if you fully understood the original story. A media file fingerprint is derived data of the original file, so you can match duplicates. You can’t make the video out of this derived data. Besides it would be extremely inefficient to compare an entire file to a database of other entire files. The usual technique for determining perfect file duplicates is called hashing, which reduces a file of any size into a fairly small value which is much faster to compare. If there’s a match with another file, then it is almost certainly a perfect copy. Now with media files it gets a bit more complicated, because video files can be lossy, come in different formats and resolutions, have watermarks and other transforms on them to try to trick these systems. The point is, from what I can gather from the text in the story, there is no holy grail database with unending copies of illicit videos. That’s all stripped out (if you trust Facebook at its word, and I see no reason in this particular case not to), much the way credit card processing done on e-commerce sites strips out your credit card number (except maybe your last 4 digits) before it even reaches their own server (if done legit).

I’m not very tech savvy, but it did occur to me that the database for revenge porn would be done using something like fie “fingerprints” without keeping the entire file which seems like it would be impractical in terms of the storage space required to store a video wholesale, if nothing else. It seems like something they could have researched fairly easily (or failing that, asked a friend) before going on air so as not to go on an essentially pointless tangent in the discussion.

      1. It wouldn’t be the first time they came up with a title that was entirely misleading. Add that as my fourth pet peeve. :) Click-bait is one thing, but I’ve grown a resistance to it, like I never click on (or at least second guess) titles that are like “blah blah blah is this”, “that will surprise you”, “that will change blah”, “you won’t believe”… but TYT title authors will either write something completely misleading, sometimes even the opposite of the point of the video, or even inspire themselves of one side comment made by one of the hosts that is not at all the point of the video but that gets that title that is just sufficiently shocking to draw in clicks. Now, unlike my other three pet-peeves, this one you could argue would hurt them financially and so in a way they could argue it to be a necessary evil.

        You have to parse youtube video titles like Jeopardy questions. Just pick out the key parts to put together a theme, but don’t expect to take it so literally.

        1. Do they ever retract a story. The direction they took on this is so insanely wrong and misinformed, It hurt to listen to it.

          1. They have retracted a story or corrected themselves in the past. If it’s such a huge issue for some of you guys, try bringing it up on their Twitters. I don’t think Cenk, Ana, Jimmy, John, etc. read the comments here so try Twitter.

    4. I see we have found your trigger word. I mean sometimes when I hear people talk about the patriarchy I can see it is a blame game. People placing blame in someone else for their failures. But It isn’t always the case. There are legitimate issues in society that keep specific people from progressing. There are people that try to push too far in the opposite direction. trying to blame white people for everything. That is wrong but it doesn’t delegitimize real issues. Look, I feel like trying to reason with you is a waste of my time from your use of “coloreds.” But it is worth a shot. People of every ethnic background do horrible things. When you separate your self from people that are different from you and label them. It makes it easier to look down on them. seeing the actions of some and attributing them to the entire group of people is bad way of looking at the world. Individuals are responsible for murders, rapes and being gold diggers not the group of people they are associated with. If your neighbor killed someone, I wouldn’t think that you were a murder because you look like them. Expanding your perspective can change your life for the better.

  12. I realize that $25 doesn’t mean much to a lot of people but I live on a very small income. It’s my choice to spend a little bit of it here to support independent news. I love the show but lately things are kind of very all over the place. Our one has no video whatsoever only audio the last week I’ve had to login and re-login I’ve been kicked out a couple times aggressive progressive didn’t load and old-school keep saying poops sorry this does not exist so anyway this whole Alaskan woman is going to keep paying my $25 because I really do enjoy the show and you really do need the support but you need to also have a sit down with your IT and figure out where these bugs are coming from whether it’s an inside problem or a hacker issue. I also support Jimmy door show the humanist report and several other TYT affiliated shows since all advertising has pretty much 90% decimated their funding. Justice Democrat Wolfpack but as an old gal as I said I don’t live on much money at all you’re all worth it I’ll do what I can but you guys do what you can.

  13. In the Facebook news Have we forgotten about hackers, these hacker have an immense ego and when there is a data base just setting there, it grows a big target on it.

    1. @Jimmy, hackers are not an concern in this case because the full files are not kept. The only thing that is kept is a hash value of the file. A hash value acts like a finger print of the original file. It is impossible for that hash to be reversed to become full file again. Facebook absolutely must create a hash to do the comparisons because matching full files to one another instead of the hashed values becomes excruciatingly inefficient.

      1. I guess you have never hacked you are just the type of public that hackers love ones who underestimate them. I on the other hand have hacked into systems just to see if I could do it, and left little code lines to let them know where I had been.

        1. Nope, haven’t hacked. I do build/manage databases for a living however. I know enough to know that a hacker can’t retrieve data that doesn’t exist even if they get full access to the systems. There is no reason to believe Facebook did not delete the full files, they are not needed and keeping them exposes them not just to the security concerns you point out by legal concerns as well.

  16. I’m sorry to be so critical this week, maybe you guys are short staffed or something, but I seriously hope things return to normal at TYT. I can’t always view the live show on time, but it used to be that Hour 1 would be uploaded before the Post Game even started, but this week there have been numerous instances of taking way longer to get videos uploaded on here, worst of all was Old School. Love you guys, I hope things get more punctual next week. Also, my opinion, the descriptions don’t need to be that long. I like the headlines that Gigi does,they’re informative enough. I hope that the reason its taking so long to get the videos uploaded isn’t because you’re writing these super detailed descriptions.

    2. @nothingbeforeus what is written isn’t for you. It’s for search engines like Google so TYT ranks when people search for these keywords.

        1. I work professionally in SEO, and web development yes it works like that. “invisible tags” are outdated by many years. Using meta keywords if that’s what you’re referring to. Other tags like image alt tags still count somewhat but what is most relevant today is text content on the page.

    3. On the first hour today, there was an editing mistake that the video only had audio no video so I guess there going to fix it before posting but maybe the editors have gone home for the night? IDK. I guess we’ll see.
      I also second you uploads all week have been quite late, 1.5 to 2 hours after post game. Quite annoying, I know we pay to support tyt not necessarily for these “features” but it’d just be nice to get them faster as they once were. The last old school took over 24 hours after airing to show up 2 days basically.

    4. I totally agree, there’s been way too many show delays this week. When I was an employer, my number one sentiment was, “if you can’t be on time, I guess this job isn’t that important to you and if you continue with this action, you won’t be of importance or value to me”.
