Grace Baldridge and Daron Dean talk about Andrei Romanovich Chikatilo, a Soviet serial killer, nicknamed the Butcher of Rostov, who committed the sexual assault, murder, and mutilation of at least 52 women and children between 1978 and 1990 in the Russian SFSR, the Ukrainian SSR and the Uzbek SSR.

Would love to see you do an episode on King Henry the VIII how he had his wives killed so he could marry someone else

This guy topped Chikatilo I’m afraid. Meet the delightful (not!) Chessboard Killer.
Would love to see an episode on H.H. Holmes and his murder castle. Supposedly Americas first serial killer. Murders my have hit triple digits. Good book on the subject called “Devil in the White City”, as well as some decent documentaries. Albert Fish would make a great episode too.
I have to agree with Jared.Robinson…. I’ve read the book “Devil in the White City” and it’s fascinating. It’s actually a novel based on H.H. Holmes. The author fills in the blank between what we know to facts and fictional accounts of how the victims found their way to Holmes. There are several documentaries made about him too. Thanks
Just wanted to say that i love this show. I didnt become a member because of it, but Its the top reason I will stay a member!
You should do episodes on the killers of Biggie and 2Pac. Separate episodes of course.
The Moors Murders from the UK ahhh I would love it.
green river killer
Thanks for the tip about watching Citizen X on You Tube — watched it last night (you gotta move quick when a movie is available, because they take’m down as fast as people put them up).
Interesting movie that played up the role the soviet govt played in failing to provide the resources or publicity that could have resolved the case sooner. Joss Ackland type-cast as party apparatchik — “There are no serial killers in the Soviet Union” because serial killers are the product of “western decadence.”
Also, a weirdly pretty, well-lit movie. Production values reminiscent of a 1960’s Disney film — there are literally no shadows, in the indoor scenes. Every face is perfectly illuminated from every angle. Weird. Unnatural-looking under any circumstances, but especially odd for a flick about a sicko who murders children.
Very moving scene towards the end when the Soviet general informs the case detective that he has been communicating (finally!) with the FBI’s serial killer specialists, and one thing he learned is that in the US they learned to rotate detectives off a serial killer case if it went more than 18 months unsolved, for the sake of the mental well-being of the detectives.
The poor Soviet dude has been on the case since the beginning — at that point, five or seven years. And it shows — he has been psychologically mangled by the strain, during those years. The general is, in effect, apologizing to the detective, but at the same time… wants the detective to continue work on the case. Good scene.
The struggles of people to survive and do the right thing, while submerged in a repressive society that cannot admit anything is ever wrong. Hate to think how closely we’re moving in that direction today, under Trump.
Great episode! Thanks all!
Aside from the main show, Murder with Friends is the best show on TYT. Great job Grace, et al. I’d love to see episodes on the following subjects:
* Lizzie Borden (she was acquitted, but history remembers her as a murderer!)
* Elisa Lam (was it murder? suicide? or other?)
* The Texarkana Moonlight Murders
* An episode with Ben Mankiewicz discussing famous murders which inspired or were inspired by movies.
* I’d also love to see episodes about murders/crimes which inspired or were inspired by urban legends (perhaps this could be a campfire series)
* And, of course, Jack the Ripper … if you cover the historical/pop culture impacts of the crimes in addition to the actual case, this could be easily be two full-size episodes.
YES!
Also, JFK.
great episode! Grace, you are a treasure — TYT is damn lucky to have you. Daron did a good job, too, but you are the mistress of the macabre. i appreciate all the research y’all do for the show, and the excellent production values of the crew. a really wonderful story, told well. with pictures!!!
Love the show. You have to look into Robert Pickton the pig farmer serial killer of British Columbia, Canada. This was such a fascinating case and I remember being so pissed when he confessed to 50 murders, was charged with 27 but only convicted of 6.
Such a great show, and Chikatilo the most interesting subject so far. MWF keeps getting better.
Great episode! I really liked Daron. She’s smart, and she made a lot of good points. I hope she comes back! And thanks once again to the MWF crew, who keeps these episodes looking good. I really appreciate your work. It shows!
Heya Grace, loving this show.
Any chance Australia could tempt you with another one?
Have you heard of Katherine Knight? She compleatly skun, decapitated her boyfriend & boiled his head and cooked parts of him for his kids..
I think you would enjoy this story
Thank you Grace! I cannot get enough of this show. I love it! Keep up the amazing work.
