Where exactly is Big Pharma? Sounds like the US government is in needs, and may pay some big tax dollars for the drugs. Why should we be relying on foreign lethal injection drugs?
I am against the death penalty but this should be a no brainer for local industries.
First, I am NOT in favor of the death penalty, but I have a question on the “How.”
When they say lethal injection why don’t they use the same solution they use to euthanize your pet?
Pentobarbitol is what we used when I worked at a vet, and we described it as an “overdose of anesthetic.”
It appeared to be quick & painless.
Why, when they euthanize humans do they need this crazy unattainable cocktail?
And if it’s not good enough for my pet … is it inhumane to euthanize your pet when they are in pain or slowly dying from an incurable disease?
Side note … I love that color of Ana’s dress. I think she had a similar, maybe darker, blouse on the other day. It makes me think of spring and being in Michigan, I’ll take what I can get!
Ya, this is the most common sense thing ever. A few years ago I lost my dog, Max, and I remember the vet explaining when it was his time to pass, that the drugs they were gonna give him were basically going to make him feel euphoric before he died. That day was super hard but that made it a little easier, knowing the last thing my dog felt was euphoria (you could even see when it kicked in on his face). I never thought this issue could ever be an issue if we had this shit figured out for pets. I love and care about the well-being of animals and my pets are my family but this is backward.
The issue here is one of supply. Pentobarbitol is subject to the EU ban on exportation of drugs for use in executions, and many “big pharma” companies are actually doing something ethical for once and licensing these drugs only for purposes excluding executions- taking the “do no harm” mantra to heart. That has forced states to purchase the “raw ingredients” as it were and manufacture their own “cocktails”, all with out professional help mind you because the AMA and ABA have both opposed physician involvement in capital punishment. Note that euthanasia, of pets and (where legal) people, is not viewed as “doing harm” in the same way.
In the end I’m all for it- if it raises the costs of executions then the states may be forced by the invisible hand of the market to do the right thing and just stop the irreversible punishment of convicts who, even if we assume them guilty, may have faced issues of subconscious bias and substandard access to legal representation in sentencing.
Happy anniversary! Keep on digging until the establishment topples.
The football players also passed up the opportunity to challenge the Israeli propaganda machine while they were there.
Gas chambers? The eighth amendment protects us from cruel and unusual punishment.
Death by firing squad? It was ruled constitutional in the 19th century. Time to revisit this one.
Electric chair? Ruled constitutional also and even if the first jolt didn’t execute, the second jolt was still constitutional. WTF?
March 8 protest: Ironically, those organizations who hire the most women will be hurt the most if the women walk off to protest.
How is that a “feminine dress”? Is a dress not inherently feminine?
And what is this obsession with femininity? Women can be whatever they want. Screw femininity! A woman is feminine by virtue of being a female.
Ana, you are buying into societal norms that do us no good. If you want to wear frilly, “girly” stuff, go for it! You do you! But don’t act like it’s some kind of moral superiority.
Allright, I was gonna go do something else but you baited me. I gotta find out what this ridiculousness is all about. You’re telling me Anna implied or stated moral superiority for wearing a dress with a ruffle ? hmmm…
SMH, because they had a little banter to ease into the show ? Because Anna commented on something she had read that was relavent to the discussion ?
Some of you people are brutal, a harmless reference to some ultra-feminist magazine and you read moral superiority into it ? I thought Anna basically expressed the same opinion as you, that some people think you have to dress down and she obviously doesn’t…
I guess that’s part of the joy of having a large audience, but damn. I know for myself if I had to speak unscripted, on record, for hours each day…. Well, they’d probably hang me within a month.
I like to see someone not censor themselves, even if it means occasionally misspeaking or not perfectly articulating their point. I also like to hear people who have different views than me. If I wanted to see someone who said exactly what I think I could just talk to a mirror, what’s the point ?
My point is that what is commonly thought of as feminine is a box that society likes to put women in.
Being feminine is not a goal – women by definition are feminine. Some of them like to put on makeup, get their hair did, and wear dresses. That does not make them better people and it does not make their opinions any more or less relevant.
I’m with this guy. Also, I generally treat the comments on here like I do the comments on youtube, rarely worth reading, and end up getting baited waiting for something to load.

Ana, I wish you stuck around for the rest of the special. You’ve got it going on on so many levels. I missed you.

Strong independent women?

Oh no! March the 8th will be a disaster! How can we survive without Gigi making the videos available? :)

Oh, Ana, PLEASE go on strike. And STAY on strike. Be strong, girl!

I really don’t think Anna was trying to push any “moral superiority.” The discussion mostly hinged off an earlier story.

there’s a definite “anti-Ana” squad, she can’t win

It’s nice to see y’all standing up for Ana.
