  1. If you want to explore torture methods, tools, and famous cases, check out the book “The Big Book of Pain”. It’s a historical book about pretty much all of the torture tools in it, all of the techniques/methods that were known at the time of its writing, along with a few case studies.

It’s an amazing book. It really makes you realise how fucked up humanity can get.

  2. I’m disappointed that they didnt mention Giles Last words…. as he was about to die during the pressing, they thought he was about to enter a plea so the judge paused the pressing, then when he leaned in close to receive what he though was going to plea Giles said “More Weight.” Ye old Badass thing to say to your exicutioner.

  3. Gadey86,

I understand your outrage but please remain calmish when you post. It’s not Grace’s fault to have an abbreviated ep. It’s an episode about torture and killing methods of the so-called “Salem” witch trials. They occurred in Danvers, MA and Salem. Tituba, for example, was a South American slave bought by Samuel Parris of Danvers, MA, and she was, as stated above, the first to be accused.

I’m a Wiccan. Also a witch. (not the same automatically) I know a bit of this history.

The Burning Times were events that happened between 1050 CE and 1780 CE (although there were murders here and there later on) approximating in about 9 million women (and a few men) being tortured to death, hanged, or given an Auto de Fe (burning at the stake). None of them were guilty of anything. By and large, they were herbalists, mid-wives, and medieval physicians who were easy targets of the Church of Rome’s representatives in various towns all over Europe. They had “power” and the church could not have that. The women had to go. An obvious test for this reason is the Witch’s Test, where she’s dunked under water. If she drowns, she’s innocent. If she floats, she’s guilty. Everyone drowns, so it’s a rigged excuse to kill.

The Malleus Mallificarum was a book created by a few Bishops that detailed what marks to look for, how to torture, and how to kill. These men were so ignorant that they thought the clitoris was a mark of the devil, not knowing that all women have them. But upon finding one, the woman was murdered. It’s a set up, all done out of fear of women’s sexual power, dictated to them by a religion that is practically the work of a demon, not a so-called god.

  4. @carkur its a horrible mistake grace makes here! Im a pagan and it hurts when such good shows with watchers tell big lies about big event like this!
This was persucusation of innocent nature pagans. And innocent non witches.
    No one was sparred! Period!

So grace where is the retraction?

And im sorry about my grammar im not english and this is the best i can…

    1. I understand your frustration – I used to be pagan myself. But this had nothing to do with pagans. These were outcast Puritan Christians. They weren’t witches in any sense at all.

I don’t know where Grace got her information, but I trust that it is accurate. It does seem in my cursory research like some who confessed to being witches were excommunicated but not killed.

    2. Tituba the *slave* was the first accused of witchcraft, confessed, and was spared. So there’s one…

Also there was no one burned at the stake in Salem. Maybe you’re confusing this with somewhere else? Burning at the stake was widely practiced in Europe, for example.

  5. Speaking to the entertainment factor … wasn’t it true that the Puritan religion allowed for NO “frivolous” activities? You had to be working or praying – that’s it! No singing, no dancing, no storytelling, no anything fun.

So, the witch trials, I think, were inevitable. It was an activity that was religious in nature(God against the Devil’s min ions) and a Roman spectacle.

Will the witch float? Find out, tomorrow!
Who will be thrown off the Jesus-train next? Might just be your neighbor!

The fact it lasted about 2years, seems about the level of hit reality shows, like Honey Boo-Boo.
People can only watch a trainwreck for so long and then they move on to …
“I hate this Witch Trial Show! Not everyone is a witch! What a rip off.”

  6. @JAIMES NOOOO YOU WERE NOT SPARED!! YOU WERE BURNED ALIVE.
THIS IS SO WRONG WHAT GRACE IS SAYING!! IM HISTORIAN IN WITCHES AND THIS IS SOOO WRONG.

PLUS THE BOOK MALLEUS MALEFICARUM SAYS HOW TO DEAL WITH TESTING WITCHES AND GOT THE BALL REALL ROLLING..

BUT PLEASE THIS SHOW IS VERY GOOD NORMALLY BUT THIS IS UTTER BS..

GRACE PLEASE REMOVE THIS SHOW OR DO IT OVER OR SAY YOU WERE INCORRECT
    PLEASE DO CHECKING.
YOU WERE BURNED ALIVE BY GUILTY PLEA. OTHERWISE EVERYONE WOULD SAVE THERE LIVES..
    ITS NOT ACCURATE GRACE.

BIG SHAME… THIS DOES NOT THE WITCHES WHO STILL SUFFER JUSTICE.
PLEASE REMOVE OR SAY YOU RETRACT YOU ARE INCORRECT ON ONE OF THE MOST BIG HISTORIAN EFFENT!!

    1. Deep breaths, dude. Grace has said before she does read the comments on these videos from time to time, and if she feels there’s some misinformation I’m sure she’ll correct it. No need to post like four times on the same issue. A quick note on internet etiquette – putting things in all caps with really bad grammar undermines your point and makes you seem like a child.
I’m not trying to be a jerk. Just want to let you know how you’re coming across.

  7. grace your very incorrect. If you plead guilty you were burned
If you plead not guilty you were drowned.

Please i never hear you so incorrect??????

    Please please check your facts!!!!

  8. PLEASE HELP. Where is the extra content grace talks about in some shows if you become a member which ofcourse i am.
I dont see extra content. Only the show??

    Help

  9. This is the first MWF I’ve seen and I really love it. I’m a new member of TYT Network, even though I’ve watched The Young Turks forever. I’m really happy to have found this show. Grace, you rock!

  10. Have y’all heard the theory that the people suffering from hysteria might have eaten ergot fungi; the psychedelic part of LSD?

  11. That Heinrich Kramer has many innocent people, mostly women, on his list of victims. He and his damn book killed and tortured so many people in the name of religion. When you talk about the Witch Trials and the hole history of it, you can’t avoid Malleus Maleficarum.
    Great MWF, as always

  12. Two episode in one week! #blessed And I’m proud to say that I did know what pressing was, even before this

  13. Great episode! It’s odd that I never knew that those who confessed were spared (well, except for having their lives and reputations ruined).

Side note: I was SO happy to see a new MWF episode in the Membership feed that I actually squealed. Yes, I’m a nerd. Also, as soon as the MWF music starts playing, my youngest cat (he’s almost 2) comes and curls up in my lap because he knows I’ll be sitting in one place for awhile. It’s adorable.
