Grace Baldridge and comedian, Earl Skakel, discuss the “Wonderland Murders” committed by infamous porn star, John Holmes. This murder case shows the dark side of the “sex, drugs, and rock & roll” era.
Totally didn’t know about the Wonderland Murders all that much before this segment; I knew they happened, but I never found any books on them in Utah when I was researching serial killers and criminal psychology, and my mum wouldn’t discuss them with me. This was great, and piqued my curiosity. Gonna have to go look at them – especially with that ending there.
I had no idea John Holmes was involved in a murder and I also did not know that he was from Ashville Ohio. I am from Circleville, which is like eight miles south of Ashville and my grandparents lived in Ashville for almost fifty years. My grandmother had just about every porn Holmes was in (she’s a Scorpio…lmao) and she is going to shit when I tell her thi . I have studied serial killers most of my life but you have brought up murders I have never heard of and I am in heaven with this show. I love it. I think I love it even more than the post-game so thank you. :)
Loving this so far. Hadn’t heard about the Wonderland murders but I really dug into the story and the time period with this one.
I’d love to see you do an episode on Canadian pig farmer Robert Pickton. It’s a horrifying story and really delves into the harrowing environment of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
I just couldn’t help myself. I had to listen to something that involved murder, porn, drugs, and a 13″ dong. Good series! Look forward to the next one.
Dawn was actually only 15 when she met John and was in a way preyed upon by him, even saying later in life that he was displayed voyeuristic behavior upon meeting her and her sister. While in a relationship with John she became addicted to drugs, was beaten and even prostituted out for his habit.
Wonderful shows.
You’re playing to my favorite guilty pleasure.
As a kid I used to play murder and sing, “The bodies lay all around, all around.”

Well Grace, this WAS a revelation, I’ve never even heard of these murders until your show here. But then again, we all ask over and over WHY is Hollywood and the entertainment industry so knuckleheaded, so discriminatory and misogynistic for all these decades, and you hear artists giving their stories about drugs, drink and kingpins. Have you ever heard Larry Fine talk about what he went through with The Stooges? People who knew him had more to say about how it was always a precarious dance with and around the mob, first in New York with vaudeville then right out to the new film capital of LA. A number of these ‘Gs’ (and Holmes) must’ve been heroes for the likes of Cosby, Simpson and Trump.
Could you do a show about Jack the Ripper? You know that DNA expert finally found who it was two years ago. I am SO glad because identifying this creep has curbed lots of idolizing creeps doing tours and fantasizing at others’ expense.
Also that old Black Dahlia murder in Hollywood that was never solved. Some cheap show did a piece on that about 20 odd years ago, there might be newer evidence. That poor woman wasn’t even a star, she was found cut in half in a park near her hotel in Tinseltown and the way the newsmen manipulated that from the word go, how badly that investigation was bungled is even worse that the Jonbenet case. Would you be interested in reopening this one?
Love your show, your presentation style and your guests! Keep up the great work Grace!
you should definitely do BTK. Rader killed a woman while a scoutmaster on an overnight camping trip, posed another victim in his church (i believe he was a deacon) and took photographs, murdered the entire Otero family — well, the ones that happened to be home at the time — and got off hugely while watching the young daughter hanged in the basement. he also (in his “normal” life) upheld neighborhood regulations, such as grass-cutting and animals running around; he had at least one pet killed out of spite just to fuck with a neighbor. he also had a wife and 2 daughters and led a fairly reasonable life in Wichita, KS. after i believe he strangled Nancy Fox, he left a box of half-eaten cereal in her kitchen sink to play on the term “cereal” killer — a sadist with a sensayuma indeed. and after he was caught and put on trial, he calmly — almost preternaturally — admitted to every crime, down to the tiniest detail, such as having to exercise his hands to gain thte strength he needed to properly strangle his victims. he appeared to have enjoyed his life. i think he still enjoys his life, but i’m curious to know how he’s getting on, and if he does enjoy himself, with his fond memories.

That was too pat.
Wow I wonder if Earl has ever watched porn or taken a drug??? I have absolutely no idea because he definitely didn’t say it 17 times.
Love this show

It takes A LOT to make me feel uncomfortable, but Earl’s too-lengthy musings on vagina length did it for me. Jeez.
