  1. Steve, thank you for sticking up for me. Sort of. The deal with the pirate story is this: the article I used for source material (http://qz.com/602348/avast-mateys-a-band-of-pirates-could-oust-icelands-conservative-government/) makes no mention of the provenance of the “pirate” name. Nor does the Wikipedia entry on the Pirate Party (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_Party). Admittedly, it’s not a huge leap to deduce that the “pirate” moniker refers to internet piracy, but since neither of these sources made the connection, I figured the name might have sprung from a different source. But no, sadly, we were not being tongue in cheek in neglecting to mention the point.

That aside, since when does producing content for consumption online open one up to criticism? I’m pretty sure we’re supposed to be able to pass on whatever erroneous nonsense we like without being called on it, or is that something else I’m mistaken about?

Thanks for watching, everybody – I’m glad you all enjoy these because Steve, Dave and I have a lot of fun taping them. And now I get to drink beer while we do them – triple win! If I can only get Steve and Dave to remember to say “Stay strong!” with me at the end…

  2. You guys did pretty well on Chad’s neighbors, missing only Nigeria, Cameroon, and Niger – all of which Malcolm read from the paper in front of him ten seconds later. I knew about Sudan and Libya, but not the Central African Republic.

On the other hand, calling Dubai and Abu Dhabi “Gulf states” is a major faux pas. (Steve.) They’re both cities within the UAE.

    1. Yes, I know Dubai and Abu Dhabi are cities in the Gulf States, not states themselves. I was referring general to the regions, both cities and member states, as being largely safe from terrorist attacks b/c they bribe terrorists.

      1. Still funny, though. It’s as if you were talking about Europe and said “all those Western European countries, you know, France, Germany… Munich, Berlin…”

Great post game, BTW. I really appreciate that you guys are taking the time to do this. The PG after the main show often seems kind of forced, like Cenk and Ana feel obligated to do something in the third hour even when they’d rather just head home. But the three of you doing this once a week is great, it feels like you actually have something to say on (usually) substantive topics.

      2. Actually, both Dubai and Abu Dhabi are cities and states. UAE is confederation of states that they call “emirates”. Dubai is capital of Dubai Emirate/state, and Abu Dhabi is capital of Abu Dhabi Emirate/state.

      3. By the way, you agreed in the video that Saudi terrorists that destroyed Twin Towers were not inspired by Saudi Arabia — but it is incorrect, They literally indoctrinate children on how people who sinned should be stoned, how you should push gays off rooftops, how infidels should be killed. And, of course, they teach hatred towards Jews: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saudi_Arabian_textbook_controversy — notice that Iran — however fundamentalist it is — has nothing even remotely close to that. Yet Israel (and hence USA) love/tolerate Saudi Arabia and hate Iran.

    2. are they cities or emirates? Where are the emirates in the united arab emirates? Does each emir get a region with a capital city, or are some of the emirates entirely rural?

      1. They’re both, each emirate is basically a city-state within the federation. What I find endlessly amusing is that they’re a bunch of absolutist hereditary monarchs who get together, pick one among them, and then call him “president”. As if they’d, you know, held a general election for the position.

It’s sort of how in Star Wars, the planet Naboo holds elections and then for some damn reason declares the winner a king or queen. Only, you know, completely opposite.

  3. Awesome! I hope we can get more Friday PG’s like this. It was a really good format. Thanks guys!

And like someone below said, do you guys not know what the Pirate Party is about and where the name comes from? Or were you just fucking around?

  4. Thank you for the long pastgame, but c’mon guys. You really don’t know the Pirate Party is a reference to *internet piracy*? I couldn’t tell if that whole segment was tongue-in-cheek trolling or you really didn’t know what the entomology is.

Internet freedom/transparency movements like the Pirate Party are kinda important to know about nowadays, and I’d like to think you guys [who I trust to check the rest of TYT on their story selection] would be more knowledgeable about major movements like this.

Really appreciate the postgame, just frustrated that no one even did a google search to figure out why the Pirate Party is called the Pirate Party. Don’t expect you to spend an hour prepping for the PG, but how did you even find a story without that basic context? ><

    1. I didn’t read the article, or else I would have researched the pirate party. Malcolm is usually thorough, but I think he didn’t look into each story this time b/c we covered so many stories. Thanks for the info on the Pirates though.

      1. Don’t want to sound overly critical, but I always think you guys do a thorough job with these stories that I was mostly just shocked cause it’s so out of character. As much as I’d love to have long postgames like this all the time, if it means less prep maybe we should stick with the shorter format,

Thanks for the reply, and thanks for giving us Friday Postgames. -Wolf PAC OR guy (:

  5. Happened to me on a 4 hour flight. A French dude was watching a movie on his Ipad and I couldn’t stop watching. He let me know he was aware of it and that’s that… I kept watching he didn’t tilt his screen away from my field of vision and all was Cool!

P.s Game of thorns is overrated. Narcos is the best thing to hit the screen in a long time.

  6. thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. i got a little excited there that we are getting a 1 hour plus friday post game. malcolm, steve and dave thank you and i’m getting stoned
