Chris Christie’s aide pleaded guilty to multiple counts of conspiracy associated with the Bridgegate scandal, along with a few other aides. It was based in exacting revenge on a small town’s mayor for not supporting Christie in reelection. The headlines of “Christie Ally” pleading guilty led many people to think Kirstie Alley was involved in some wrongdoing. Chief Justice John Roberts’ statements about judicial elections included language that inadvertently disputed the validity of Citizens United. His point was that if judges are paid with contributions, they may be beholden to donors rather than the law, and that judges can’t be held to the lower standard that elected officials are.
