Ben, John, Rubin, and Jimmy hosting. The suspects behind the Charlie Hebdo shooting as well as the hostage situation in another part of Paris are all dead after a raid by police. Of the terrorist attacks in Europe, only 2% are religiously motivated, while the rest are carried out by separatists. The Iranian President Rouhani spoke out vehemently against the attacks in Paris. Ben points out that this shows some progress with Iran through negotiation. The Hezbollah leader also condemned the violent action in Paris. After one day of nearly total solidarity with the cartoonists at Charlie Hebdo, many are backing off of doing so 2 days later. Ben and David disagree on the usefulness of the Charlie Hebdo cartoons, as Ben wouldn’t want to work for a publication that created that. Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram struck a small town in the country, virtually burning it down. Reports claim up to 2000 people were murdered.

President Obama announced a plan to make community college free in America. Video of his announcement. Talk about everyone’s grad schools. The House approved a bill to build the Keystone XL pipeline, while Obama continues to promise a veto. Jimmy doesn’t believe that Obama will follow through and veto. Ben announces that the iPhone was released today, in 2007 and that 200 million have been sold.

  1. 1. Did Dore LITERALLY just say that going to “college is a SCAM” and pointless and a waste of time, money, etc… and then say AT THE SAME TIME how crucial education is and how Germany and Finland’s economies are booming and society at large and individuals are greatly benefiting because of the access to public education?! So college is actually VITAL and EVERYONE SHOULD GO FOR FREE?! Huh? Just a heads up, college is considered education.
And I almost threw the laptop when he gave the exceptions to try to prove the rule by listing a couple of literally Geniuses who are in the top few richest people ever, who didn’t go to college as proof it’s just a waste. How about the other 98 out of top 100 most successful people? Or pretty much every study and just common sense?

    2. I’m a fan of Jimmy but this was one of his worst shows. Aside from the above point, he Trump’d his first point in the first story by saying “a lot of people are saying” to lend credibility to his conspiracy that 3 kids that almost went to the wrong place to shoot up, decided to do it so the right wing in France, of which seeing that he doesn’t even know what party that could be or who makes up the right wing there, would be strengthened so some cascading stream of events would occur, so in a decade, the majority of the country would be more fundamental-leaning and religious fundamentalists could gain power and control. IN FRANCE. AFTER ONE SHOOTING. Fortunately Ben shot it done immediately.
But whenever someone says a lot of people are saying something, but fail to say who any of those people are, and you’ve never heard it despite its popularity, the idea is probably being made up in front of you.
Generally speaking, 3 kids who aren’t even doing it for the same causes or reasons, haven’t considered the political ramifications and are scheming to shift the political spectrum so that people they don’t know can rise to power at a later time they will never see since they will be dead.

Oh and the college thing drove me up the wall.

    3. AND PLEASE SOMEONE AT TYT, the loud thing at 48:15 that Jimmy does, it’s only been for about the last year, but I notice EVERYONE can’t stand it and it throws off the vibe in the room and kind of kills whatever joke was said. Oh, and it is DEAFENING. Is anyone gonna say easy dude? Cenk one time said “okay yeah that was funny.” After Ben made a joke and jimmy did it for like 5 seconds. And Ana always turns away and sighs, Im really complaining because I had headphones on.

I could get into the absurdity of Rubin the last 2 episodes but he’s gone so I wont.

  2. Yayers the panda bear is on. I am finally up to this day. I am super behind in the internet paid subscription stuff.

  3. Why is Dave Rubin on the first hour? He provides no meaningful contribution, and he rarely seems to have a good grasp on the story he’s discussing. Keep the “social” hosts on the social hour and give me people who actually know something about the stories.

  4. 100% behind Ben, it was great to hear someone talk sense and felt like almost alien on TYT. If we saw someone mocking and deriding a disabled person we would all step in to protect them from bullies, and wouldn’t listen to them complain about free speech. Mocking religion and religious people seems to be okay regardless of what the majority of those people have said or done. If we group people together and mock them because of their religion, skin color, ethnicity or social standing, makes us little better than bullies regardless of whether we call ourselves libertarians or national socialists.

  5. Ben was right, but didn’t go far enough. Not only are these people living in dictatorships that keep them uneducated and poor, living in fear of retribution from the irrational violence of the state, they are in those situations largely because of the US. Those countries are kept that way by US money and military support, so that the resources can be extracted for the profit of US industry with not too much fuss. So, maybe, when the chickens come home to roost, you don’t act so fucking shocked that such a horrible thing could happen.

  6. I don’t know who the tweeter was that said it, but they were right. Ben was the winner tonight.

I hate disagreeing with Jimmy Dore. It hurts my soul to do so, but he is totally wrong about Muslims being an oppressed minority. They absolutely are both in the US, and in France. France has always been a nation of bigots. They were way more anti-semitic than Germany, which is why it was a surprise to some that Hitler happened in Germany not France. Today, they are quite hateful towards Muslims in their country. I have read about this frequently and I’ve seen it first hand while in France.

What people in the West don’t seem to understand when they act with outrage about their own people getting murdered is that they are murdering people themselves all over the place. They act like joining the “coalition of the willing” to invade Iraq illegally exists in some other universe unconnected to the people safe in their Western democracies. They are flabbergasted that somehow after decades of killing people at will, some blowback might come back and bite them. It makes me want to puke how often I have to hear about the great progress of the enlightenment, and how if only those backward Muslims would have the same thing, then everything would be fine. The enlightenment was only fucking possible, because while Europeans were living in the flea-bitten dark ages, the world’s scholars were all Muslim, recording everything that had come before them in the age of Rome and Greece when backward priests and their illiterate followers were burning everything that wasn’t the bible. And how enlightened is this great world, this great Western tradition? How many military bases does the US have all over the world? How many countries is the US killing people in right now? How many civilians are being killed this second? Does that mean nothing? Are these lives all worthless? Well, to some Muslim people who maybe just recently escaped from these regions, those are real people, and when they are turned into bits of meat by US cluster bombs, such that the families cannot even tell where one body begins and the other ends, that affects them, maybe a little more than vaunted ideals of the freedom to draw cartoons. Maybe after seeing hundreds of thousands of people who are at least in some ways like you pointlessly slaughtered, you are less inclined to see the merits of having your religion mocked by the so called “enlightened” people who burned down the village where you were born.

  7. The panel should study the Boko Haram problem and the current political dynamics in Nigeria before commenting. It does appear to be very complex and not many solutions are presenting themselves.

  8. Excellent points by Jimmy Dore re the cowardliness of the New York Times, their role as gov’t lapdog, and the Charlie Hebdo cartoons. Agreed with him 100%, he’s always the best aspect of any show.

  9. I have to disagree with Ben. Atheists don’t get peope of faith? No, people of faith don’t get people of faith. They also don’t get logic or reason so we cant be reasonable in sight of the religious? Nah all imaginary friends are stupid. Doesn’t matter how extreme it is, its all stupid Every one of them.

    1. Gryphon87 just agreed with you. Read below to see the type of person he is.

This should be a wakeup call to your lack of understanding and ignorance on the matter.

Ben is a very mature person, who you could learn a great deal from.

  10. Wow, so 30-40 people die from gun violence every day? Lets imagine if republicans didn’t have a gun fetish. You think they wouldn’t be putting these deaths on Obama? Its a new 9/11 every 100 days! IMPEACH. But no such complaints. Biggest terrorist attack in American history actualy happens and they pretend it didn’t happen on “Bush’s watch”. Like he protected us by throwing away all our rights.

  11. Sounds to me like their plan is to get France or maybe the US to invade Yemin. Bankrupt them and us. Sounds like a surprisingly solid plan for crazy people. At least if you think you will live again after you die.

  12. Sorry, guys — this video has shut off 6 times already and I don’t think I’ve even reached the halfway mark. It would be so great if you could fix it. It’s a great discussion and Jimmy Dore is on.

  13. What was wrong with Dave’s guess? 250 million (50 mil off) is far better guessing than Johns 30 million (170 mil off). That just sounds wrong ;)

  14. Ben just laid everyone to the floor and revealed himself to be a very moral, incredibly enlightened, genius of a man.

I am beyond impressed, and blown away by Ben’s incredible insight and unbiased perspective. If only we were all more like Ben.

  15. Ben went full retard when he started crying about muslims being a minority and their feelings matter. Fuck their feelings and their stupid fucking beliefs.

  16. I disagree with the panel saying Islam is the only religion its OK to mock. Jewish is the only religion its not OK to mock. All others are mock all the time. I say its OK to mock Jewish faith too. WWII is over. Hitler is dead. and Netanyahu is closing in on Hitler in the who loves genocide contest., soooo

  17. The moment Ben said he went to the Columbia School of Journalism, my first thought was, “I wonder if he had Judith Crist as a professor.” Then, voila, he said he did. Pretty cool.
