John Iadarola, Jimmy Dore, and Brian Unger host TYT. An American nurse returning home after working with ebola victims has been quarantined in NJ even though she has no symptoms. Videos of Chris Christie claiming that he has no 2nd thoughts about enforcing the quarantine are shown. Since the nurse is upset about being quarantined, some Conservatives have come out attacking her, claiming that she’s going after Christie b/c she’s an Obama voter. She talks about it on CNN in a video. Brian points how how the media is doing a disservice to the entire conversation that could be had. After Gov Cuomo and Christie supported the quarantine, the nurse has been released to home quarantine, and Christie remains defiant. Talk about how Republicans have worked hard to push citizens to undermine the reputation of the government follows. Rupert Murdoch clearly illustrated his biases when he tweeted that it would be so wrong if there aren’t sweeping Republican victories in the election. For the 1st time a sitting Senator has come out in favor of legalizing marijuana, Sen Merkley from Oregon. John promotes the Turk out the Vote initiative. More and more Republicans are clearly opposing registering new voters and getting more citizens to vote. Christie sees more easy registration as a plot to corrupt elections. A Congressman from Georgia openly spoke out against Black voters being able to vote near their homes at churches, citing a separation of Church and State. Another called allowing more opportunities for Black citizens to vote, “contorting” the process. The supposed free voter ID that many GOPers want to make mandatory actually cost the citizen more money than now illegal poll taxes used to. The Pope is changing his thoughts on evolution. He has presented a scenario that connects the Big Bang Theory to a Creator.

  1. Brian is completely wrong in the 70s there was a shitload of gay hate the gay hate wasn’t really there in 1990s as much. That is when we started to except gays that is why I said you have to ask gays if the 90s was the last time people were feeling great or if they hated. I want to ask Rubin if he would prefer things to go back exactly to how they were in 1995 1996ish or have things the way they are now? That is how you can find out if i am right or not.

  2. To answer the Iadarola’s question that was back in the 1990s before Bush. However we didn’t have gay rights then so it is really hard to say how they felt back then.

  3. yayers, I am not that far behind in TYT stuff. i thought for sure since i was extremely behind in youtubeland I would be very behind here.

I love the kute panda bear and the African pygmy hedgehog.

  4. pets don’t need to be quarantined in Europe as long as they have the proper documentation. When you go on a show and spout incorrect nonsense, you’re no better than Fox News.

  5. That fucking pope! I think they probably love him because he doesn’t really disagree with any of the conventional catholic ideas but he states it in a way that fools people who are more progressive.

  6. Unfortunately, it seems that if there is bad times, the government will take the deliberately wrong steps to try to put things right by shoveling privilege and power and sometimes money, to the corporations. When there is good times, like during the Clinton era, they say “now that everything is well, now is the time to invest and reinforce the economy by shoving privilege and power and money at the corporations.”

    1. Politicians are useful to those who support them getting elected. Those with most power to support politicians are Corporations, we let those with money have the power. And we don’t tax them enough, they cut services for the majority and they create organization to advocate for more corporate welfare in the name of economic growth at the expense of taxpayers. Oil is the blood of industry and with that mentality we subsidize oil companies just so we don’t have to pay 16$ a gallon at the pump, but if we didn’t feed that industry free money just to make our consumers happy we might see less corruption and more progressive innovation in business.

  7. I can’t believe you guys don’t love Brian Unger more, he’s so fucking funny on Always Sunny In Philadelphia! It tickles me all crazy every time I see him on the show!!!!

      1. I love Cenk, but this is a breath of fresh air after the solo-Cenk-first-hours for 4 days last week. Still wish he was on this panel, though.

    1. That’s funny – as soon as I read Cenk wouldn’t be on the show today the first thing I did, even before watching, was to see if the “Cenk’s not here” complainers would leave comments!

  8. I don’t think I’ve ever agreed with Christie, or Cuomo on anything before but I don’t understand the objections to quarantine. Quarantine is not a punishment or an attack, and should not be a disincentive to those brave enough to be willing to risk their lives to help fight this epidemic. They should be kept as comfortable as possible and maybe the government should even pay them two or three times their normal salary for their time, but what is wrong with keeping people who have potentially been exposed in isolation until the incubation period has passed? It seems like an extremely minor inconvenience to endure. I am not advocating panic, and I understand that ebola is not airborne, or a particularly infectious disease, but what’s wrong with being cautious? I agree that the nurse in question is a hero and anyone who helps to treat ebola should be treated with dignity and respect, but her anger and indignation at a mandatory quarantine does not seem reasonable to me.

    1. Thank you. This really isn’t that complicated. It defeats the purpose to “stop the virus in West-Africa” if you fly back over and spread it here.

    2. I disagree that a 21 day quarantine is a “minor inconvenience.” That’s a pretty big inconvenience.

OTOH, I think a quarantine is a reasonable precaution if it’s necessary. In this case, I don’t think it was. The CDC didn’t think so and I’m going to go ahead and believe them over Christie.

Plus, ebola isn’t very contagious The reason it needs to be stopped in W. Africa is because there are 3rd world countries there that don’t have the resources to deal with it. Here in the US, we have the resources to stop it from spreading. It’s not going to spread here anyway, regardless if it spreads in W. Africa.

      1. If you were compensated for your time, and they went out of their way to make sure you were comfortable, it could be like a three week paid vacation. Read some books, watch some movies, hang out with friends and family over skype. I’m not saying they handled it well, but with the right kind of implementation, I don’t see what would be so bad about it. Maybe it isn’t necessary, but it seems like a reasonable, and far from odious precaution to me.

    3. By the way I realized after the fact that I used the wrong word in my first post. I meant to say that ebola is not particularly contagious, meaning that it doesn’t transfer from person to person as easily as other viruses. It is however incredibly infectious, meaning that it only takes contact with a few (1-10) viral particles to produce the disease.
