Ana joins for SCS. Ana and Wes disagree over which state is more smug, CA or NY? The winning Squarespace website is announced for the week. A Georgia man’s house was raided by police with helicopters and SWAT teams over his okra that was growing in his backyard. They flew overhead in a helicopter and thought marijuana was in his yard. He realized after the ordeal was over that he could’ve been killed by the police. Cenk imagines a President Obama that is truly progressive. Although Black citizens get incarcerated for drug related crimes at a higher rate than White Americans, the rate of Blacks that deal drugs is startlingly low in comparison to their White counterparts. A 34 year old mother punished her 14 year old daughter for skipping school by following her around with a video camera and taunting her at school. She then posted it on Facebook where 30K people viewed it. Cenk is torn on this. TYT Supreme Court was tied until Jesus sided with a guilty ruling for the mother. A bakery owner in Oregon is facing her shop closing after she was sued for not serving a gay couple looking for a wedding cake. Video of her tearfully telling her story at the Value Voters Summit is played. Cenk explains why he has been torn on this since the beginning. Ana used to be torn, but she’s in favor of forcing them to not discriminate.

I know a number of Americans on television seem to see it as their personal duty to promulgate that they live in ‘the greatest country in the world’, but to decree that Californians aren’t smug, coming from you, is particularly heinous. Whenever you discuss a city you’ve visited, you always repeat the refrain ‘but I couldn’t wait to get back to LA, it’s the greatest city on the planet’, so please calm down with your indignation. Ridiculous.

  2. I couldn’t agree with Ana more. I’m sick of “religious” people using God as an excuse to discriminate and be hateful. Sweet Cakes by Melissa tears of discrimination don’t work on me.

    Any church or religious organization that doesn’t spend at least 30% of it’s income on community and/or social works should have their tax exception revoked. So many are fronts for political activism vehicle to spread their hate. Or repressive legislation.

  4. Well in NY they also ask what school you went to because THEY WANT TO FIND OUT IF YOU ARE OUT OF STATE SO THAT IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THEN WHAT DO YOU DO. I know because my friend that is out of state just moved there. He went to college in NY so he has that as well. He gets to talk about his MA high school and stuff as well. They don’t so much do it for class but to actually get convo going as well.

In Cali they pretend to be nice to you but THEY DON’T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU THEY THINK THEY ARE BETTER THEN YOU. In NY nobody thinks they are better then anybody unless they are on Walstreet and they technically are because they get away with crimes. In NY people aren’t happy there therefore they can’t be smug.

  9. Jimmy: I had a fourth grade teacher who I heard some horror stories about, but didn’t really believe- until- this kid in my class didn’t know the answer to a question, she threw his desk about three feet, it landed upside down. She was screamin! I was scared! We were eight.

    WOW … I can’t believe Cenk may actually believe that small business should be able to discriminate.

    So … let’s say that Jayar is driving from LA to Vegas. He stops at Joe’s gas station.. It’s OK that he could be prevented from using the rest room?

    I get that the cake decorators are providing a service. So? If they don’t want to serve everyone, they should get OUT of the business they are in.

    1. I think discrimination is everywhere, every bouncer discriminates about who they let into a club, Taxi drivers discriminate about where they will go at certain times on the night.

      In this case the whole problem is the fine levied on the couple, using a sledgehammer to crack a nut is stupid. Some people I’m sure would have applauded if they had got the death penalty.

      Liberal values say we should live and let live, therefore simply fine the woman $5000 so that she understands the legal consequences of discrimination without making her a martyr.
