Ben hosting today. An execution gone wrong in Ohio. Dennis McGuirre was executed by lethal injection earlier this week, using a new concoction of drugs. Unfortunately, the drugs seemingly caused McGuirre agony and terror, and a medical term known as “air hunger” about 5 minutes into the execution. He was seen convulsing, gasping for air and making loud snorting noises, and it took him almost 15 minutes until he died. The reason new drugs were being used is because the European pharmaceutical company that provided the old drugs refuses to provide them anymore because they are against the death penalty. Obama may be willing to issue an executive order to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. A bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced legislation that would restore protections in the Voting Rights Act that were struck down by the Supreme Court last year.

Benghazi Senate Report is released, with blame falling on Hillary Clinton. Clips of Lindsey Graham talking about the matter. During a panel at Heritage Foundation event, Louie Gohmert said that judges legalizing gay marriage need plumbing lessons, because a penis belongs in a vagina. Republican Tim Donnelly, who is running for governor in CA, wants a gun in every safe, and puts up a goofy campaign ad.

  1. Oh, hear the part about his lastname helping him with his career? He hates that, because he knows that he, and all his family members (father, cousins, siblings etc) are all riding the money train & free career boost that his grandfather afforded them when he played a part in writing Citizen Kane (in other words, they are still riding off the good quality, clever work that their grandfather endowed them with), like any decent Israeli person, they’ve squeezed this resource & surname until there is no more milking left to be done, yet they believe they all ended up in this line of work coincidentally, because of their own hard work (lol). Yep, must have been, since they all had political and/or TV careers, what are the odds of so many family members ending up with successful famous political and famous hollywood careers all independently of one another and all because they put in hard work, and it all seems to have worked out for ALL of them that wanted it. WOW, what are the odds? 1 in a few trillion or 1 in a few zillion.

So, Ben goes on to say “and I say this with no defensiveness at all”… and then goes onto explain that his grandfathers name holds no power and has had no relevance lol. Ben, i knew as soon as you said “i say this with no defensiveness” that you absolutely were saying it with 100% defensiveness lol.

Oh and don’t get me started with his family having money problems in his childhood. $72,000 a year in 1979 was like $500,000 a year today you moron, and he tried to argue that they were not well off and always had monetary problems. Heck, even if you did have money problems, it was probably because you brought a triple story home instead of a double story. That reminded me on when Mitt Romney said in an interview that he was currently unemployed and laughed. Yeah, technically he is but I assure you he doesn’t need a job, just like you didn’t need that hypothetical triple story house!

    1. Since Ben mentioned that he preferred co-hosting, it would be great to pair him with either Wes Clark Jr or Cara Santa Maria or Desi Doyan or Jimmy Dore.

  2. If they are going to have the death penalty, why are they not using the same concoction they use to euthanize pets? They always tell the pet owner, “This is painless, and Fluffy will just go to sleep.”

      1. His point was that being against the death penalty does not mean we have to feel sorry for the criminal. But Ben said the same thing, so I don’t know why he’s complaining.

        1. Actually, as I listen to Ben, he’s trying to make us sympathize with a murderer. So yeah, OP had a point. “Cruel and inhuman” probably referred to torturing to death, for example drawing and quartering, burning at the stake, etc. The death penalty, as an institution, is the problem, and contributes to the U.S. culture of violence that makes us all more likely to be victims; we shouldn’t care if a particular murderer suffers for 15 minutes. I suffered more at the dentist last month than most do in their executions, and that’s not an exaggeration.

    1. Actually, that’s fine with me — as long as it’s someone like Ben filling in… Personally, I find Ben hosting hour-1 a very welcomed alternative. He’s more than a solid presenter, he’s one of the most articulate and intelligent commentators I can think of.

      1. I like Ben and I enjoyed the second half of the first hour. Ben has a great command of the the English language, and know his grammar. A breath of fresh air on this site.

    2. Cenk and his “posse” do a Martin Luther King holiday trip every year. I think the group includes Dave and Steve Oh. It’s actually pretty cool, they generally go to pretty interesting (and sometimes off the beaten path) historical places. I think I heard Cenk mentioned Tennessee this year. I’m sure we’ll hear about it during a post-game.

(long time listener … although I sound like a stalker ;-)
