January 6, 2014 Hour 2
Ana joins Cenk for SCS. Cenk decides to talk about how happy he is about the Chargers Wild Card win in the playoffs. A female columnist created a loathsome OKCupid profile of a beautiful woman with a horrible personality to see if men will still be interested in dating her. She concluded that “droves” of men had no problems with the deplorable person she depicted herself as. Cenk thinks that this fake profile got this much attention because, its online, and there are probably many women with stupid profiles like this. Tiger Mom is back and has written a book about how to be successful in America where she outlines “The Triple Package.” Cenk looks to straighten out her ridiculous categories. Controversy surrounding comedian Natasha Leggerio and her joke about a Spaghetti O’s tweet commemorating Pearl Harbor. Instead of apologizing, she fired back with a clear reason why she wouldn’t.
A journalist has outed Republican Congressman Aaron Schock, claiming he was caught in the show with another man. Although he didn’t name Schock, he posted another article immediately after entitled, “The most gay pictures on Rep Schock’s Instagram page.” Flashback video of Cenk not committing to calling him gay back in 2012. Now, he’s concluding that he is gay. Discussion over whether or not he should be outed. A teacher ate only McDonalds for 90 days and lost 37 lbs. Cenk talks about how this proves that strict diets are b/s. A man set his home on fire and looked forward to resetting the blaze once the firefighters extinguished it. After it was destroyed, the man flew into an insane, conspiracy-filled story about how the Obama Admin is coming after him. A YouTuber that posted videos of his pet raccoon that was eventually taken away, so he’s running for governor of Tennessee to get his pet back.

I agree totally about the calorie restriction. All this stunt proved is that you can eat crap and still function. So he lost weight with severe calorie restriction. Seems like a sad way to go through life just so you can eat s*** shoveled down your gullet from a faceless corporation.
I myself am a vegan and eat on average 3 to 5 thousand calories a day and have no need whatsoever to suck in my non-existent belly. I could run backward around the track further or longer than this guy could walk in however long or however far he goes.
And it certainly is ironic that Cenk and Anna would be giving nutrition advice that they have gleaned from the same mainstream media that we all hate so much. Carbs are bad Cenk? My guess is you eshew carbs as much as possible. Explains your expanding mid section. Carbs are not only satiating, but make life much more pleasant than it is for the folks who try to starve themselves into body satisfaction. We’ve all seen how well that works out.
It’s steel-cut oats. That means the grains are cut by a blade instead of squashed flat. It affects taste and also slows the rate of digestion.
The McDonald’s diet pictures showed such a small volume of food, I would be starved and unable to stay on such a diet. That is the problem with so many diets. I need to eat more low-calorie-density food to fill me up.
The picture of the teacher in profile may have the typical before/after scam of inflating the belly by pushing it out for the before and sucking it in for the after.
I agree with Ana, a dumb guy is a repellent. Not as huge as an asshole, but pretty substantial. I remember making a pact in high school with a friend that every time a dumb guy would be interested in us and wouldn’t take no for an answer we would start talking to each other using words he wouldn’t understand.
As for not eating one’s entire portions, I don’t have a problem with that as long as it’s being saved for later/donated/whatever and not thrown away and wasted. The amount of food that we throw away in this country is unbelievable. I always feel terribly guilty when I have to do that and I always try to donate food I’m not going to eat or at least give it to animals.
Shouldn’t it be, Cenk joins Ana?
Love Anna’s commentary and great reporting, but getting kind of tired that she criticizes anything that doesnt pertain to her segment. We like the natural conversational commentary so please stop acting so annoyed with it. Let people speak. It is Cenk’s show, afterall.
While it is ridiculous to assume that some cultures are just superior to others, there is one common fact between many new immigrant cultures and certain long-term American cultures: the focus that parents put on education and the tendency for members of certain cultural groups to select themselves out for additional focus on education.
For example: Jewish and Chinese cultures put IMMENSE focus on education and parents tend to force children to achieve academic excellence (or get used to spending a lot of time alone in their room). This focus accelerates the advancement of the children of such cultures and can result in superior achievement.
That said, structural racism/sexism and socioeconomic statuses are also very strong factors and some races have a much easier time than other. For example, a white, Jewish male from an upper-middle class family with a professor for a father (like myself) has an unfair advantage over a black women who grew up in a working class family and a working class neighborhood–this isn’t to say that the black woman wouldn’t succeed equally or superior to the white man, merely that it would take her additional effort to overcome society’s lack of equal treatment of some groups.
Overall, success is far to complex and far too mired in external factors for anybody to find three causal characteristics or nationalities that herald superior success.
