  1. So much anger in the comments section about a non divisive topic. In Australia we don’t do circumcisions in hospitals it’s the parents choice to seek it out if wanted. I do agree it’s different to female genital mutilation, circumcision isn’t meant to inhibit sexual desire or performance, it’s a religious rite of passage and has to do with reducing chances of infection etc etc. Female genital mutilation is designs to stop women enjoying sex as well as showing dominance over women in both marriage and gender roles. I believe it’s a personal choice for the parents or child (if/when old enough to consent). Nobody should tell you how to raise your kids but there are certain expectations ie: toilet training to ensure your child grows up to be a functioning person in society. As circumcision is quite common in Australia and appears to have no major long term lasting effects then it comes down to personal choice. They won’t die from it (unless it’s super butched) but they won’t die without it. It’s almost usually to meet someone uncircumcised in Australia, although of course there are some, I think ppl worry they’ll get it caught in the zipper

  2. For crying out loud, Ana!

So by your logic, I shouldn’t think about or care about the mutilation of female genitalia when I know it is taking place on girls who have no choice in the matter. I shouldn’t care because I don’t have a vagina and I don’t have any daughters. What an idiotic and obtuse dismissal. You don’t have to necessarily “care about circumcision” per se, but you have come out on more than one occasion saying that parents abusing the rights of children ought to be stopped. Does consistency matter to you? And when does diminished sexual pleasure become less important when some pleasure still remains? What a ludicrous point to make.

To say that this salient point – the one where misguided adults are making decisions about what should permanently happen to the genitalia of children – is somehow mitigated because you aren’t willing to reorder your list of priorities isn’t much of an argument, and it doesn’t do much for you in the way of demonstrating your humanity.

And to flippantly dismiss the comparison between female and male circumcision on the basis of social mores prevalent in the Muslim word or elsewhere makes you dishonest and an apologist for abuse. It is disgusting that women are being abused due to religious dogma, and it is ridiculous that men are having their sexual organs cut because of a stupid practice based on religious dogma.

Of all your gaffs, this one really pinpoints where you stand on issues that don’t directly impact you. I’m not sure this is a redeeming quality for someone trying to be a journalist.

And John, really. The pixy cut penis distinction is fine provided that the person making the decision to have the pixy cut penis is of an age where consent for the procedure can be granted. Interesting that you ignored this point in your superficial treatment of the issue. You were way better in hour one.

    1. It may be the case that circumcised Men wish they weren’t circumcised. But I’m not aware of it. It could be that Men who are either circumcised/uncircumcised really don’t care all that much. If it isn’t a significant issue that harms people, and most people are indifferent then why get all riled up? Studies show the probability of contracting HIV is lower among circumcised men. That might be a good enough reason. Some people think the slight reduced pleasure means you can last longer. That seems like a good reason. It may also be aesthetically preferred. There aren’t many downsides. Just opinions. And if the vast majority don’t care then it isn’t really a civil rights issue is it? We don’t get a choice of who our parents are, which schools to go to, which religion to be raised as, which vaccinations to take, which neighborhood to grow up in, etc. So you may want to tone it down because 1. it isn’t black and white and 2. It is hardly a high priority issue and 3. If they messed your one up in a ‘botched job’ then I suggest wrapping some bacon and clingfilm to hold it all together

      1. If there’s any basis for this at all, I’d suspect it has to do with hygeine of the foreskin. HIV transmission rates shouldn’t be affected at all.

    1. No there aren’t. When you go into the research about Aferica it’s unfinished. It doesn’t prevent STDs at all. That is why Ameirca is highest for STDs and other countries where circumcision is illegal has the lowest.

  3. Botched circumcisions are the majority of circumcisions. Also the majority of males are now intact. I hope you both read the links in this comment section.

  4. There is no difference between circumcising males and females they both cause brain damage and they are both mutilating the genitalia. John you are a fucking idiot and if you EVER circumcise a child I will unsubscribe from you. Please read the links. There are 0 pros to circumcisions only negative. You both need to read the links BEFORE you EVER talk about this subject again. Ana doesn’t sound like a total moron because she said she never did the research. However, John you are a moron because you do have a penis and you should have done the research. Hell John you should know all about foreskin reconstruction and use that on your penis. It will make you better at sex since you always bitch about how much you suck at it. Your orgasm will last longer and I might even want to fuck you. Since you said you would fuck virgins and I am one.

  5. Wow, when you say “I don’t have an opinion because I’m not a man or a child” you come off as extremely arrogant and self-centered. If it just affects the life-quality of other human beings, then it’s of no interest to you?

Being ignorant just because you haven’t had the time to read up open certain issues is totally understandable, but just as it took time to build awareness over gay rights (even among straight people!) it will take time to do the same thing with male genital mutilation. News shows who have to care about rating isn’t the one who drives change. They jump the bandwagon when it starts gaining popularity.

  6. Circumcision should be a personal choice, unless there is a real medical issue at an age when a child can’t make an informed choice for themselves.

It doesn’t matter about how it affects sexual enjoyment, it doesn’t matter matter about tradition, it doesn’t matter what the parents want, it’s part of that man’s body and the irreversible decision shouldn’t be made for them without a good reason.

It’s nowhere near as barbaric as female genital mutilation, which as Anna said is a designed to stop a woman enjoying sex, but it is still in the same category. If parents tattooed a child for any reason their child would be taken into custody on grounds of abuse, why is this any different?

  7. You guys surprise me.

    It is human right issue.

OF COURSE body mutilation of this is unacceptable for BOTH women and men. Parents have no right to decide this for their children. Childen have to grow and decide for THEMSELVES.
