    A man doesn’t necessarily have to be sexually aroused in order to get an erection. Men, especially when they’re young, get erections all the time even when they’re not aroused. It happens very often to older men when they go in for their annual prostate exam: You can be totally straight and have a nonexistent sex drive, but have a doctor will rub your prostate while looking for cancer and you’ll get a raging boner. Physical stimulation is all that’s needed for a female rapist to give her victim an erection.

    I think the ”You only get an erection if you’re aroused” myth is very harmful. It reinforces the belief that a man can’t be raped by a woman and makes people doubt male rape victims’ allegations. And it causes even more shame for the victim because they may start doubting themselves and thinking ”What if I DID secretly enjoy it” which, in turn, makes them less likely to report the assault. It’s similar to saying a woman getting ‘wet’ means she was aroused, when that’s also a reaction that can be purely physical and induced whether the woman wants to have sex or not.

    I’m not faulting you for it; it’s a very common misconception and I know you don’t mean any harm. Just wanted to clear it up so people have a better understanding of how female-on-male rape works and so you don’t get yelled at by people

    1. Thank You Migu! You hit the nail on the head and took the words right out of my mouth! Men can and do get raped all the time. And not necessarily by women as you would imagine when thinking about male rape. Didn’t TYT do a story a while ago reporting that male rape exceeds female rape due to our prison system? I’m pretty sure that those guys being raped wasn’t aroused. :(

      I agree with you Migu, that the “you only get an erection if your aroused” myth is definitely harmful and discredits real male rape. I believe it’s in line as saying that if (and sometimes it does happen) a woman orgasms during rape, she enjoyed it; and that means you can’t rape the willing. There are things that your body does that you can not control. And promoting misconceptions about it definitely is harmful for both sexes when it comes to rape.
