Update on the pressure cooker story. Obama’s first choice for Fed Chairman was Tim Geithner. Lindsey Graham told CNN that Snowden has Americans’ blood on his hands for leaking information even though he refused to give evidence. Harry Reid told conversing Senators to sit down and shut up so that they could continue the business of the Senate. Charlie Rangel pointed out that the Tea Party are the same White Crackers that fought against Civil Rights. Discussion of whether or not he went too far. The crazy PA police chief that made YouTube videos of him shooting machine guns has been suspended for a mere 30 days. San Diego Mayor Bob Filner has been accused by an 8th and 9th sexual harassment victim. He wants the city to pay for his legal fees because he claims he was never given sexual harassment training. Story of Colin Powell’s personal email friendship with a Romanian politician that he’s known for over a decade. The relationship was publicized by a hacking group, prompting Powell to address the relationship as nothing more than personal emails, no affairs. Cenk, John, Jimmy Dore, and Steve Oh hosting.

This show was awesome. Seriously had too many good points.
Obama is afraid to show that he doesn’t know something? I hope to ‘what-the-fuck-ever’ that that is NOT the reason…
Ah great! Jimmy “panels” on this one!
Does the archive video stream buffer for other people or is it just me ? It wasn’t an issue before but lately it lags and buffers every few seconds now so I end up downloading the video and watch it without interruptions. My internet speed hasn’t changed… it has gone up in fact.
Yeah I have the same problem. I messaged the tyt support over it. It’s a bit annoying especially when I know it’s not me because I have a high speed internet.
John Idarola is like every other man who thinks he’s so enlightened and feminist, but when he comes down to it, he’s just as big a sexist dick as any other knuckle-dragging sexist. His comments that a hot guy can get away with sexual harassment because women will be into it, along with his comment that the mayor couldn’t even get a good response from ugly women (I’m paraphrasing, but that’s the gist of it) were beyond offensive. It takes a LOT for me to say “Wow, that’s offensive,” but wow, that was offensive.
This entire segment re the mayor could be likened to the congressional hearings on women’s reproductive rights…conducted by a bunch of men. A woman would have been very useful in this segment, if for no other reason than to put John Idarola’s sexist, offensive comments in check.
It’s not sexual harassment if the woman is into it, and let’s live in the real world, a sexual advance is more likely to be accepted if the guy is physically attractive.
Yeah, maybe in the TYT studio flirting is more commonplace (I don’t think John was talking about headlocks and face-licking), but in the office I work in, even the slightest amount of flirting would be viewed as sleazy and unprofessional, whether you’re good-looking or not. Of course, relationships can develop, but the workplace shouldn’t be like a nightclub. And John said ‘ordinary-looking’ women, which I don’t think should be mistaken for ugly.
I think you make a great second point that they should’ve asked for a female perspective (which I don’t think they ever do) in the same way they ask Jayar for his perspective on racial issues… It obviously didn’t even cross their minds.
Another way of interpreting Obama’s interaction with Stiglitz is to say that Obama didn’t want to hear a more detailed analysis of what went wrong because he doesn’t want to be reminded of what he should do. I don’t buy the explanation that he simply doesn’t understand economics that well: 1) the concepts are not that difficult (as Jimmy alluded to), 2) the results should speak for themselves. The more simple explanation is that he is a willing participant in the Wall Street effort to rob the American people blind. The choice of Summers for Fed, The Grand Bargain, etc. speak for that explanation as well.
What the hell does Cenk mean when he says that Joe Stiglitz has won 2 Nobel Prizes?
From Wikipedia:
“He is a recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences (2001) […]”
“He was a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.”
Please, as a military member and a young turk subscriber please don’t say commander n’chief unless it refers to the military. He is my commander n’chief and the other servicemen not civilians.
whatever, fellow citizen
really dude?
i think arya makes a really good point. Obama is commander in chief of the armed forces; he’s not commander in chief of the people, he’s our elected executive. it’s a very different role, and we, at least in theory, preside over him as the body politic, he doesn’t preside over us.
Cenk your suit looks really nice. Classy.
The mid-episode debate was just awesome. Great back and forth with valid points.
the panel discussions are always my favorite
