Juror B-37 interview with Anderson Cooper. Discussion of whether or not a sweatshirt is a hoodie when worn by people we aren’t automatically afraid of. A Washington Post columnist said Trayvon was wearing a “thug uniform,” aka hoodie. Rachel Jeantel interviewed with Piers Morgan and pointed out that weed doesn’t make people go crazy, just makes them go hungry. She also spoke about the difference between the use of nigger vs nigga. Twitter Storm w/Jenny Huang.

Cenk, Does Obama know you? When you were on MSNBC, you once commented about Obama — something like — Is he incompetent, is he weak? — there was more but I don’t remember the third attribute you questioned. Shortly after that, Obama was speaking to the press and he implied that some people in the media had suggested outrageous things about him.He then said, “AM I WEAK?” He was obviously VERY angry. I thought, at the time, that he knew it was you, and shortly afterward, you talked about how MSNBC had told you they were an “establishment” station (or something) and you shouldn’t be saying things people in DC didn’t like. I felt at the time that Obama definitely knew it was you. It was an intuitive hit I felt, which you probably don’t believe are real, but I’ve had so many of them, by now I know they’re true.
I don’t mind that the Trayvon-Zimmerman case was the topic of most of the show only because Cenk made some really great points.
The segment on the hoodie vs sweatshirt was really enlightening.
What’s all this talk of hoodies? Aren’t hooded sweatshirts an extremely popular fashion for all races and ages?
As a member, I podcast the show and spend most of the time nodding my head, or laughing out loud as I work around the house or property. But the discussion of whether Juror B-37 is racist drove me crazy. C’mon Cenk, Jayar…why hold back on this question, which really is no question. She’s racist. Probably the majority of the jury as well.
When you listen to her response to Cooper’s questions, it is clear that the jury weighed the dead African American kid against the potential inconvenience to Zimmerman’s life, and calculated some years in jail for an older non-black person as more valuable than the entire future of a young black person. They clearly decided that the young black man’s life was worth less. She also talked about how “George” made mistakes that cost the life of the young man. That is CLEARLY a description of manslaughter. But they did the race math, and couldn’t “pull the trigger.” How is this not racist.
This calculus took place in one of our core institutions – the justice system. Institutional racism abounds.
The conversation you say you want cannot be tiptoed around. It cannot happen with people being comfortable. I am white, and in my 50s, and had to be made quite uncomfortable before I could see the racist behaviors that I have. When you are part of the dominant culture, you don’t have to check – the institutions are there to help keep you comfortable. As Jayar said, she isn’t wearing a sheet and going to Klan rallies, but she is not just prejudiced against kids in hoodies, she’s racist because when given the chance she fostered the stereotypes through her role in the justice system, and furthered racial injustice. Besides that, she is a despicable person, drooling over the blood money that her and her husband are lusting for. Her hopes of profiting from the death of Treyvon make the case even clearer.
Like Paula Deen, B-37 is racist. Until we call it what it is, when we see it, we won’t get past it.
Dude the trial went, you are a lawyer, and Zimmerman was pronounced innocent. There should never have been a trial. This was political prosecution by the media and the racists on the left. All you guys did was see Zimmerman as a white guy who killed a black kid. Well the kid was 17 with a history of issues, Zimmerman was an idiot who was HISPANIC. Say it again “HISPANIC”. This trial yet again shows the left are racist just as the right. Why don’t we focus on some black on white, black on Hispanic, or black on black crime? Also you comment on the juror calling George Zimmerman “George”; of course his defense attorneys worked hard against the biased media who painted him as a white guy named Zimmerman who killed poor 11 year old Treyvon.
Two idiots got together and something dumb happened. Color me surprised.
You need to be a little more open to both sides instead of knee jerking left racist ideas simply because this kid was black.
I am just glad George got his day in court. The story only blew up because it seemed like the police were making some ugly assumptions about the victim. I am all in favor of reasonable doubt letting criminals walk. Now that the prosecution failed to establish that standard, I wish George well. Also, Stand Your Ground has been exposed as reprehensible policy with chilling consequences for the unarmed so maybe we still win in the long term.
I haven’t seen this episode yet but based on Monday’s show it seems like Cenk has been pretty accepting of the outcome too. Most TYT post-trial coverage has just been pointing out various horrible responses by Zimmerman’s supporters.
Also, what does his half-Chilean half-white ancestry have anything to do with this? His Chilean mother apparently has a reputation for being racist against black people according to members of Zimmerman’s own extended family. Just because he’s “HISPANIC” doesn’t mean he can’t be racist against other minorities.
Everyone can be racist. That is besides my point. I was just pointing out the media hypocrisy, along with the lefts, in trying desperately make this case into a narrative against whites and racism. This whole thing was a joke. I hope many of the media outlets get sued for slander.
How do you know that Treyvon was also an idiot? He was killed before we got to hear from him.
Also, why should this never have gone to trial? Dead kid, no witnesses, shady loser with a gun and an alleged history of violence? You at least arrest, and no trial would be a rare exception.
17 boy with a history of aggression, drug use, criminality, and his posts on various forms do not point to a future college graduate. Maybe he would have came out of it as he aged, but right then and there he is a dumb teenager with too many hormones and not enough brains. Many of us have been there.
It shouldn’t have gone to trial because there was not evidence that could convict him beyond a reasonable doubt. You had no solid witness saying differently, no motive, and sustained injuries. This was a waste of time; a political fiasco for the real racist to once again be hypocritical.
LOL, I bet there are only a million white kids who match that description who are future college graduates that you would never question as future college grads.
Yep…….
but… I would say, and have seen, they never make future college grads or productive citizens. Obviously I don’t know a million, but the pattern is there. Teenagers and young adults aren’t adults, and they can react violently. I have witnessed it in high school, college, and early adult hood. I have, shamefully, seen it in adults.
It is an established *fact* that George Zimmerman is 75% *White* and 25% *Hispanic*. I have Native American blood in my family; it is not unreasonable for me to refer to myself as a Native American. However, I am mostly European White. It is *misleading* for me to say that I’m Native American, because I’m predominately White. The details are incredibly important.
Can you establish that fact for me? Having a mother from Peru wouldn’t that make him 50%? Even so at 25% why are you guys so desperate to say he is white? Why was the media so desperate to do so? Where did the term “Sefl-ascribed hispanic” come from? True leftist racism. Trying to act against racism by being racist.
Math fail. His mother could have more than one race, making Zimmerman 75% white. Race is a social construct so if people see Zimmerman as white, they treat him as white. That’s a different way to experience the world than someone with a minority race experiences it. That’s why people say that he is white. Because the cops saw a white man who shot a black kid. If they had seen a black man who shot a white kid, the outcome would probably have differed. Self ascribed hispanic comes from someone who describes himself as hispanic. It a simple term. What is leftist racism? That makes zero sense, it just strings together a derogatory term with the word leftist to make the left wing look bad. Weak sauce.
So who cares more about race? You or me?
I know the Zimmerman case is important, but to dedicate an entire show to it, like there isn’t anything else going on.. come on now.
I would have immediately shot Ashey Tisdale in her thug hoodie, and her attack dog, too. Utterly terrifying.
how about a drinking age that is 21 or HS graduate? couldn’t hurt graduation rates.
Enough Trayvon already. We get it. The NSA spying is a teeny tiny bit more important. Drone strikes. That sort of thing. Maybe next time we do under 20 minutes of Trayvon? Ok, ok. Under 30 minutes? Please?
The NSA spying is hugely important, but you’re definitely undermining the social importance/impact of the Trayvon case. I don’t know if you’re a minority living in America, but issues like the Trayvon case happen everyday in America and they have a hugely negative effect on the impoverished, predominantly minority communities like the one I live in on the south side of Chicago. If you can’t understand how it affects America as a whole, then something is wrong with you.
Guys… Is it only me? Or does it also drive you mad when people won’t just say nigger/nigga in a conversation specifically dedicated to talking about the word? Just fucking say it! It’s fine to say it when reading Mark Twain because it’s /within/ context, isn’t it? Come on…
It’s not only you. Many people who aren’t black see the annoyance of the don’t-say-it to be greater than the pain it may cause to a black person who is a part of the conversation or is listening to it. It’s perfectly understandable – you don’t know how it feels to be humiliated in a group in the middle of a conversation by that particular word, how it feels day by day and minute by minute to be reminded that you are “them” in this group and that your feelings aren’t considered, how it feels to be reminded that the color of your skin limits you to a certain level of achievement at least in this group, the group where a guy with no idea how all this feels just called you a N-word.
That doesn’t make you a racist, but it does make you a dick. I would reconsider.
I don’t care who you are, if you respond in such a sad, mopey, victim-y way when the word is used in the context of discussing the word itself, then you need to grow an ounce of intestinal fortitude. Lighten up, ZuS. You’re being an asshole.
Do you have a mirror handy when you call people an asshole?
It’s not that complicated: if you say it, a black person in your group may be alienated on the simple math of you not paying attention that it might have been wrong to say it. If you’re not ready to die for that person and he knows it, you just made your group weaker and everyone is having a slightly shittier day. Avoiding it will actually strenghten your group just by telling everyone involved that you weigh the inconvenience of don’t-say-it very low, which makes you slightly less jouvenile and a bit more of a pillar in the group.
Why is there no gender discussion about the Zimmerman case?
To be honest, I think that Trayvon being male played a greater role, than him being black. I’m from another country and another culture, so that might play a role, but as a white male, I’d be way more suspicious of a white man walking slowly through the neighbourhood than a black woman.
woops… this one ended up at the wrong spot!
No, it’s not just you, there are many others who show know empathy for others as well.
Does Juror B-37 also feel bad for George Bush, for having to deal with Iraq?
Off topic- sorta digging that intro music.
Jennyor whoever does the intro music, can we get a shout out for who it is??
I wanna let you know I’m glad you’re doing so much on Trayvon. This is why I watch this show and why I became a member because you give coverage that the other mainstream media falls so very short. This is the news of the day and I know you will catch up on the other sooner or later.
I watch because I want Cenk’s perspective on issues and the show always delivers. Thank you
I agree with you, and I disagree with those who are ready to move on and just get over it. Different strokes for different folks.
Indeed!
An entire hour? Fuck this.
for fuks sake get over it, we dont want two hours a day of trayvon f-ing martin coverage. i know everything you think. you spent half hour on the first story, and there is still more trayvon stories, this is bullshit. im NOT INTERESTED. iim a paying member and you knowing are doing this because you want to cover it, becaues you cant get over it. i understand if you cant get over it, but dont let it overtake your coverage, not everyone wants 2 hours of travon on tyt every single day! for f-s sake cenk! i love u guys but come ownnn, come ownnn (hank williams would say)
Why are still talking about Trayvon? The jury has made their decision and you guys unanimously decided on monday that it was best to go with the jury’s decision because it was just one of those cases were there wasn’t enough evidence to put the guy away. I get it, we’re all uncomfortable with the situation, but please give it a rest. Provide some breaking news like North Korea trafficking missiles through Cuba, or other news worthy of coverage, not the same already-regurgetated piece of banal news.

I’m strangely weirded out by the juror constantly calling the defendant by his first name, not to mention making up excuses and advocating for him post-trial. I know they didn’t pick out a close friend of Zimmerman’s for the jury, but that’s somehow the impression she leaves. It’s just painful to watch.
Oh, that’s not really strange. I worked with a woman once who was always defended cops when anything questionable came up (e.g. excessive force, dubious search and seizures, etc.), and she was chosen for a jury position when a local cop in Austin was being charged with excessive force for beating a man who was already handcuffed and face down on the ground. Not only did the jury find the cop not guilty, but, the woman in question went to dinner with the defendant afterwords.
I’m sure it was an impartial jury that made a fair decision in this case.
