You can disagree with Michael all you want but to call him stupid or ignorant is a joke. His views might not align with yours (welcome to the world, btw) but he is one of the most knowledgeable people within TYT.
Michael Shure. Realize that this is part of Obama’s footprint. To say the NSA scandal isn’t has no basis in reality, and a far less respect for the horrendous toll this takes on our society going forward.
Michael Shure never fails to disappoint! Weakest intellect on the panel… The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were certainly among the worst crimes in history. There is no defense of them.
There should not be a different standard for presidents. The last couple of presidents should all be tried the Hague/. Not because they went to war, but because they committed war crimes. If they have a good defense, let them defend themselves. The only reason I hear that we should not do this is because it is the US. That is not good enough.
I hate saying this, but I feel relieved when there’s a show without Cenk. He’s gotten more shrill with time, and the content of the show is so much more about his opinion than about facts or genuine analysis that I get tired of listening to him. I’ve started switching to no-name tech shows for relief. Besides, there is no one on the planet that I want to listen to for an hour straight. There are too many people with good ideas to spend an hour every day listening to only one person, and good discussion only comes when there is more than one participant.
As for Michael, I like him. I think he’s a good analyst, especially when it comes to political handicapping. I’d argue with him all day long about some things, but I don’t mind that. We’re on the same side generally and on the majority of issues, and if there weren’t differences of opinion, things could get very bad very fast. Of course, there are times when I’d try to make him eat his establishment-loving words, but I’d do it with a smile, because I like him and respect him. Besides, in a full-out debate, he might be able to make me eat mine.
Cenk said this roughly a few day ago, “…when people say, “I don’t have anything to hide, so who cares if they go through my privet information” or, “…well Google already sees where we live and what we do through the internet.” These people are basically saying that they will never challenge their government. This is the same attitude that the Germans had in Dachau, and many Americans had against the Japanese and Blacks during (before and after) World War 2, it is voluntary ignorance and cowardly submission to powers that be. I find this position to be “extremely” selfish, unpatriotic and very dangerous, its the kind of stuff that turns country men against each other.
I have said this before, Michael Shure is good for the TYT team for alternative commentary, but his rhetoric is very off putting when it comes to the police state, or positions of authority. Shure calls himself a pacifist, and says that drones are surgical, 94-98% of the casualties are civilians…does he watch the TYT? This is ridiculous, what is he mumbling about when he says,”…that is what is nice about the cold war…”…what?…this guy was really off …if he is such a pacifist, why would he not weight equally the high number and low number of the deaths of innocent Iraq civilians reported…a total apologist for power, and phony pacifist to boot!
ugh Michael Shure, I like him and I know he’s totally team Democrat, but this disappointed me truely: if you don’t have anything to hide, why can’t they spy on you all the time. (he said it differently around 8min mark, but that was basically what he said)
seriously he’s that dumb or that of an apologist? they’ll find the smallest thing that is not PC (but still legal) and crush you with it when you try to speak against them
in an era where they start calling journalists “terrorists” how can you not see how they’ll misuse this
also if you own a business that means sooner or later your competition will be able to get their hands on it and crush you
…sorry but I did not see or hear where he is being subtle on his positions. Either he knows what he’s talking about or not, either case he is not very persuasive rhetorically.
There’s a biblical quote, paraphrasing, that says “If Jesus is not risen, than our faith is in vain.” I believe this to be the fundamental mentality behind Shure’s arguments. If our elected officials are not men of honor, their faith is gone.
I don’t believe this at all. I think government is obscenely unpopular for this very reason, and showing that leaders are consistently held accountable for their actions would restore great faith in the democracy. Nevermind being the American, logical thing to do.
I heard the show 2 hours ago and I am still amazed to what level Shure’s disregard for everything from civil liberties to human life has risen. Up until the Greenwald stories we’ve heard explanation on top of explanation from him; basically all paper-thin arguments from authority supported by bully-like mocking of the opponent. After the tapping releases and documentaries showing the scope of the drone mass murder, Shure has a new set of answers: “I knew it all along, nothing new to see here”, “trust the government” and my favourite: “war is hard and we’re aggressive, so that’s how that goes”. Pretty soon he’ll just come out and go: yea, we do all that; so what?
It’s not that Shure doesn’t understand what we’re objecting to, it’s just that he doesn’t really give a fuck. In the world where constant omniaware surveilance and killig for profit is the norm, the analyst no longer analyses and becomes a mere scorekeeper. I am more and more appreciative of how madly lucky we are that it was Cenk and not Shure that started TYT. Otherwise it would be two hours of Wolf-fucking-Blitzer every day.
I knew Shure was an Obama fluffer, but the range of cocksucking in this show is incredible and apparently contagious for Ben and John. Is Obama the Borg or something? Shure seems to be 90% assimilated at this point. The range of contemplation of fundamental moral principles in Shure’s head at this point is at “we’er an aggressive… democracy” and “drones are far more surgical than we think” – what the fuck, dude. What the fuck is wrong with you?
When your answer to the question of whether it’s hypocritical to condemn other countries for doing the very things we do is “being president is hard”, I think you’re totally lost.
Here’s an “extremist” position for you. I think Michael Shure’s arguments are un-American, asks us to forgo logic, and is a blatant advocacy for “rule of men” over “rule of law.”
Aside from this, it’s especially antithetical to the general themes pushed on TYT.

Am I really going to be the first person to comment in 5 years?

Also, when you begin holding people in political office to a different standard than you do a normal citizen….
Michael, what the hell are you even saying? How can you NOT be an Obama Apologist with rhetoric like that?

I thought I was listening to TYT. It turns out that when Michael Shure is around it just turns into fucking CNN. That guy is a piece of shit.
I agree. People who say things I don’t agree with can all go to hell.
People who say stupid shit can go to he’ll. Go ahead and include yourself in that category.

michael shure is milquetoast.

Cenk is always calling out mainstream media establishment apologists when Shure is the worst of them all. God listening to this makes me sick.
I think that Michael’s positions are significantly more nuanced than you are giving him credit for.

Obama should deffenetly go to jail, hes a mass murderer. But he has a nice suit on the otherhand, aah i guess u should let him go.

It’s hard work.
…indeed!
I just want to speak out that I think today is a shit show. I’ll let other more eloquent members criticize the bullshit Obama apologizing argument
