Department of Justice spying on the AP.  Benghazi scandal.  Dennis Kucinich falls for Republican talking points on Fox News.  Both Martha Raddatz and Jonathan Karl on ABC parroted the GOP talking point that the White House wanted to have it both ways.  Darrell Issa broke down the difference between an act of terror and terrorist attack.  Video of American Crossroads ad going after Hillary Clinton for the Benghazi scandal.

Robert Gates responded to the criticism over the Benghazi response by calling their reactions cartoonish. List of the multiple acts of terror carried out under Reagan and George W. Bush that they didn’t respond to, and Republicans didn’t seem to mind.  An IRS office in Cincinnati has been targeting groups that have the words Tea Party in them for their tax-exempt status.  President Obama responded harshly to these allegations.  Rand Paul made a video with CBN called “At Home with Rand.”  Video of Michelle Bachmann calling for prayer on 9-11 to prevent more of God’s Wrath on our country.  May 13, 1846 was the day that America went to war with Mexico and took territory that became several American states.  Ben talks about how now we go ballistic about these portions of the land, crying about the borders when we took much of our land from others that owned it first.

  1. So has the giant superdesk been scapped? Great to see Ben hosting again, I’d happily let Cenk have a week off every month if Ben stood in for him.

  2. I don’t think Hillary’s “Who Cares!” comment was a mistake. Maybe it was a bit rough around the edges, but, if given a chance, I think she should double down on the comment rather than backing off. Something like: “Senator, it did not seem important at the time to fine tune our language. It seemed to be evident to just about everybody that the incident was an act of extremists and was a terrorist attack. It didn’t seem necessary for us to state the obvious in every sentence. However, had we known that the shrill commentators on Fox News and the hysterical politicians could blow this non-issue into a big steaming pile of bullshit, we certainly would have been more careful in our wording.”

  3. I agree that there were lots of attacks under Reagan, but he did respond to the killing of Klinghoffer.

From the Wikipedia entry on the Klinghoffer:
“Initially, the hijackers were granted safe passage to Tunisia, but U.S. President Ronald Reagan ordered a U.S. fighter plane to force the get-away plane to land at Naval Air Station Sigonella in Italy. After an extradition dispute Italian authorities arrested and later tried the Palestinian terrorists but let Abu Abbas, the Palestinian who had served as a mediator, fly to Yugoslavia.”

    Just to stay accurate.

  4. I’m kind of guessing this has something to do with where TYT eventually “lands” after Current becomes Al Jazeera, but haven’t there been a lot of “unexplained” absences lately? That is, Cenk is just suddenly not there on a particular day, and he didn’t say the day before he wouldn’t be there, and there’s no explanation as to where he was when he does return

    1. He told us last week that he was taking this week off. I think he is going to visit family and watch his nephew graduate?

  5. If terror attacks are God’s judgment on the country, then:
    1. How can we hold any Obama, Bush, or any other leader responsible? How can we attack the perpetrators?
    2. The Jihadists believe they are doing God’s work. Strangely, Christians like Bachmann agree with them.
3.There’s a malevolent being that lives in the sky and attacks us violently on a whim for ill-defined transgressions? That’s fucking scary. We shouldn’t be worshiping this being, we should be funding NASA missions to go kill it.

  6. I like Ben Mankiewicz and like seeing him disagree with Cenk sometimes. I worry when I see everyone on the show agreeing with each other all the time. We become sharper when other challenge our views and listeners become more informed. Seeing Ben on today’s show reminds me of how much I enjoyed seeing David Sirota a while back. I’d love to have him on the show again.

  8. Ben, it’s really a stretch when you say that the talking points are politicized, I means you even admitted earlier that talking points by their very nature are politicized, so how can you turn around and say that the white house/state department is not responsible for changing the talking points?
