  1. As the powers of TYT have determined, Dave Rubin is the shit. He is now my favorite pop culture fill-in host. I like Catie Lazarus for her nuanced positions and ability to provoke debate, but Dave is straight solid.

Likes sports and pop garbage? Count me in.

  2. Really quickly, since Dave and Ben butchered it and I do this for a living, the test is called an Implicit Association Test.
It works on a really simple principal. If you were to see a picture of a turd with “disease” written underneath it, you would form an association between the word and the picture more quickly than if you were shown a bunch of roses and “disease” written underneath it.

So what we do is get people on computers and ask them how straight or gay they are. They are then shown some images and asked to identify them as gay or straight.
Then we give them two groups, one that says “me & straight” and another that says “other & gay”.
We then flash them pictures of gay and straight sex and they group the pictures accordingly (they are supposed to ignore their sexuality and just place the images in the groups which correctly describes the act).
Later, we reverse the grouping, so now we have “me & gay” grouped together along with “other & straight”. The participants are asked to sort out the pictures once again.

At the very end, we compare the time taken to sort the pictures into the correct groups, claimed sexuality of the participants, etc. and infer things about the participants sexuality.

    1. I remember taking a similar test about race on some college website a while ago. I thought it was pretty genius.

      1. Project Implicit has a bunch of tests you can take online. There are several that show your bias toward race, sexuality, weight, age, etc. It’s different from this study because it just measures your time sorting 2 categories into “good” or “bad” rather than “me” or “other” but it’s the same concept otherwise.

  3. I actually take some offensive to what Dave said about Bisexual people, and maybe even the overall conversation (basically saying all Bi guys are easy). This is a fucking sterotype I have been battling since I came out in 2006, yes a lot of guys of all orientations cheat, and some gay guys say they are Bi 1st, because it used to be easier to come out as Bi. But then there are actual Bisexual guys like myself who are a perfect 5 on the scale, and actually I’m Pansexual (meaning gender doesn’t play a role in determining who I find attractive), but just because it’s easier to explain to people, and most don’t see a difference in the 2, I go with Bi. And yes I have had more male sex partners, because in middle school and early high school it is true that hooking up with some of your guy friends is a lot easier than trying to hook up with a girl and that age. But I’ve been in 2 long term relationships with women too, actually I’m still in the one, and the girl I’m dating is the love of my life, and wouldn’t dream of cheating on her. Yes people of all orientations see attractive people every day who they are not dating or hooking up with them, but just because you see an attractive person doesn’t mean you are going to leave the person you are with to try and get with them. Really the only difference between someone who is straight/gay and Bisexuals, is that us Bi people get to notice more beautiful people in the world. :)
P.S. TYT I sent you guys an email, and if you want to quote any of it: “have at it hoss”!

    1. I agree. There is nothing like trying to participate in conversations with lesbians who just want to be accepted, just to have them tell you to gtfo because you like men. It is kind of bizarre but for now seems to escape a lot of people in how hypocritical it is.
I don’t know how much this pertains to your situation but whenever people start talking about how “bisexuals are just greedy” “bisexuals need to make up their mind” etc. I always come back with something like “Those damn bi-linguals. They’re just so damn greedy, wanting all the languages for themselves. Or they’re just attention hungry. They really just need to make up their mind and settle down with a nice language.

  4. Okaaaaaaay, I don’t get what’s so difficult. :D
    Let’s say you are straight.

They flash “other” and then show a picture of straight sex -> normally fast reaction “It’s straight sex”
They flash “other” and then show a picture of gay sex -> normally fast reaction “It’s gay sex”
They flash “me” and then show a picture of straight sex -> faster than normal reaction “It’s straight sex”
They flash “me” and then show a picture of gay sex -> slower than normal reaction “It’s gay sex”

    Still pretty genious experiment.
