The Point 12.4.12 – Consumerism Kills?, TV Republicans, and Domestic Violence

Black Friday always draws attention from the press for crazy shoppers charging, running, and even getting violent in pursuit of a good deal. But, in the wake of labor disputes with Walmart and a deadly fire in a Bangladesh factory that produces Walmart products, is the American tradition of consumerism costing lives abroad? The Young Turks Host Cenk Uygur has long-criticized mainstream media for portraying Republicans as reasonable when they aren’t, but is this true? Is the media guarding Republican interests and not portraying an accurate picture to the public? Is Grover Norquist taking the fall? Lastly, Chris Brown is making a public spectacle of himself again by verbally attacking a female comedian on Twitter– he’s still recognized as a celebrity and sells albums; he still has fans rallying around him. Do celebrities face real consequences for their behavior? Is this an issue of youth, celebrity, race, gender, or something else? Does the public care?

Ana Kasparian (Host, The Point and Co-host of The Young Turks) lead this weeks panel to discuss these issues and more with Robert Green (Executive Producer of Anothergreenworld.com), Lucas Lilieholm (Producer, The Young Turks on Current TV, Environmentalist), and Alexis Garcia (Producer and reporter, PJTV, Fox News Latino). Special thanks to Judy Gearhart (International Labor Rights Forum) for sending in a point.
