Hour 2
Segment 1
Black Friday at WalMart will start at 8pm on Thursday night. Many WalMart employees are going to strike as this is the last straw. Jimmy and Steve talk about how ridiculous Black Friday lines are. Kim Horcher and John Iadarola defend their Black Friday participation.

Segment 2
Talk about the lack of facts in Louisiana schools curriculum when it comes to science. Santa Monica has a tradition of displaying a nativity scene along several blocks. After a struggle, Atheists have gotten control of 18 blocks to display their own scenes that seemingly mock the Christian ones. Santa Monica decided to stop it altogether, so the Christian groups are thinking of suing.

Segment 3
Story about how young men aren’t always about wanting sex. Talk about monogamy vs polygamy being natural.

Comments

  1. Cenk’s counter to Steve, though (regarding jealousy) is a real point though: that is the cultural of a settled society. We’re not hunter-gatherers anymore, so polygamy is less useful, socially and evolutionary. The only solution I see is open marriages, but people will still get jealous.

  2. Yet again Steve O is right. ALL HUMANS are polygamists we have been for thousands of years. Monomogy is a curtural thing created to control people. Steve has it figured out.

  3. I’m happy to see all my fellow science enthusiasts making comments about this episode. TYT has built a great reputation when it comes to politics but lately they have been failing on the science stories. I think Jimmy Dore is very funny but he almost jumped off the pseudoscience cliff with the vaccines comment. Luckily Steve Oh called bullshit because it was about to be embarrassing. Not as bad as the Common Room’s attempts to promote religion, spiritually, ghosts and any other silly stuff you can think of but still pretty bad.

  4. I think Jimmy is really confused on rising rates of Down’s Syndrome; I think he’s thinking of supposed rising rates of Autism, which was falsely linked to vaccines with mercury preservatives in a skewed study that was later retracted by a British medical journal. Cases of Autism are not actually on the rise- rather, the diagnostic criteria has broadened to include Asperger’s Syndrome and other conditions that fall on the Autism spectrum.
…..Or he’s doing WAY too much coke during the breaks.

  5. There have been studies that indicate that dogs and monkeys also feel jealousy, which means it’s likely that that is not a societal construct.

  6. yall need to start a tytscience or something. every science story you do is ruined by the anchors not understanding the background info or even how science works

  7. i agree with Jimmy on the fallacy of human monogamy. Men will be just physically attracted to one person, after that, men must replace that with something else for him to remain attracted. That is the biggest huddle every man faces, other than lying oneself into it. It’s more possible when a man doesn’t have to lie to be himself. Many women don’t what to know all of the man they’re with, that will lead to a man lying to you 100% of the time. The most sexy thing is to be yourself with your loving partner allowing you do your thing in their presence. No one owns anyone body. Jealousy is for egocentric fools.

Love all the scientific hypothesis/theory in this second hour.

    GREAT SHOW!

  8. I generally like when Jimmy Dore is on, but oh god, he is horrible at science and Steve Oh isn’t much better. We know the mechanism of evolution – it is called NATURAL SELECTION. Also, scientific theories and facts are NOT mutually exclusive. A theory is an explanation model. Theories EXPLAIN facts.

  9. When I hear all this talk about Wal-Mart I´m quite happy that Wal-Mart had to retreat from the german market in 2006. ;)

  10. Hilarious unintended irony – In a segment ridiculing Louisiana’s lame science textbooks, Steve spews a stream of ignorant nonsense about evolution, theories and facts. What Steve knows about science could barely fill a shot glass. His incoherent pseudo-scientific babble provided some great laughs. Thanks!

  11. One comment on what Steve Oh had said around 30:00. He mentioned how the term theory is used in Science, In actuality from even an academic point of view, the Laws of nature are now mostly addressed as the THEORIES of nature**. We no longer use the term “law” in scientific terms because it gives it a definitive meaning, when like Steve had mentioned (along with Jimmy) is that it is always changing if it is prove “wrong”.

** i.e Newtons LAWS of Physics, have been more addressed through their different basic THEORIES.

  12. Agree with math mexican. Jimmy Doe is a great way to fix up the show. Thumbs UP for Jimmy!!! Love, Steve Oh as well. This is not your parents dumb ass news show.
