Hour 1
Segment 1
Cenk hosting today. Election day is tomorrow! The latest polls have President Obama leading. Video of all the senseless confidence Republicans have that Romney will win. Brit Hume and Chris Wallace are perplexed by the polls showing that Obama is leading. Cenk points out that polls haven’t been illustrating the real way 3rd Party candidates can change the election.

Segment 2
Video of all of the excuses that Romney supporters are giving if he loses. They are preparing to put the blame on anything else except for the fact that their Party’s agenda sucks. Mitt Romney also predicted that we will have another recession if Obama is reelected. Erick Erickson has written that he’ll be ok with either Obama or Romney winning because the world is going to hell anyway. He outlines that he believes both the Left and the Right think things are going to be devastatingly bad for opposite reasons. Republicans in Ohio and Florida are engaging in voter suppression in Black and Latino areas.

Segment 3
68% of Republicans believe in demonic possession, while only 48% of them believe in climate change. Overall, 37% believe in ghosts and 57% believe in demonic possession. Cenk goes over the intriguing state races for Senate. Cenk gives his predictions on which states each candidate will carry along with the electoral numbers. He also reveals who he will vote for since he once considered voting for a 3rd Party candidate in the solid Blue state of California.

Comments

  1. I watched Current last night and was hoping to listen to the podcast with Ben today. Nothing in my itunes. Does anyone know if they are doing an election night podcast?

    1. Looks like no. I’ll probably post this on tonights podcats (if there is one) but what did pople think of the shaow last night? I thought it was …. Meh…. I didn’t care for Anna’s segments, I didn’t care for the “Celebs”, and I’ve never been a big Jimmy Dore fan. I normally like Ben but last night he was just, ….meh….,

My cable company doesn’t have Current So I switched between Fox and MSNBC. I wanted to watch Fox cry and I was watchign Fox when they called it for Obame, excellent, and when Ham Rove came on crying that Ohio was still in play. Much better than TYT was last night.

      1. I liked their election night coverage very much – bad qudio quality and all. Ben’s insight was up to its usual amazingly high standard, as was everyone elses. I thought Ana shone last night. She always seems to have more interesting things to say when John’s there for some reason.

Compare TYT’s election night coverage to any msm, MSNBC for example. TYT is so much more real, better in its depth of background information. and has FAR better guests.

I think it’s a waste not to post it for the guests alone. Maybe it’s a contract thing, why they can’t.

  2. I’m so fucking annoyed and frustrated with Cenk. Why is he so resistant to acknowledge that there exist voting systems that don’t split the vote and allow voters to vote their conscience. Why doesn’t he even casually mention “hey, maybe we should switch over to a better voting system”?

Even if he believes campaign finance reform is more important (although it isn’t), he should at least mention that changing our voting system is important too. Competition is essential to holding politicians accountable and we can’t have competition when we are forced to vote for the lesser of two evils. Changing the voting system doesn’t even have to be done with a constitutional amendment like CFR. This could be done state by state. It would help so much if California had its non-partisan primaries with approval voting so the two candidates with the highest approval rating would face off in the general. As of now it is possible for the two worst candidates to make it to the general due to vote splitting.

    1. Damn straight. There would still be two camps, but at the very least they would have to cater to the third parties for their commitment and pundits would stop yelling at the third parties for “stealing elections”. We are way more likely to get campaign finance reform through f.ex. a Danish electoral system than anything else.

      1. Multiple parties don’t steal elections but check out Canada. Their multiple party system allowed a con to get elected who currently runs the show. Why? Because none of the more liberal parties could garner enough votes to win.

    2. Our voting system certainly warrants improvement. No argument there.

But getting money outta our politics is clearly a more important issue. Under our current corruption loving system, regardless of who you elect (and the staff they bring with them) they’re very likely to cave eventually to the enormous pressure to play ball. If not for their own avarice, then because their fellow congressmen and staffers will insist on it.

      1. We might disagree on which is more important, but don’t you think our fucked up voting system at least deserves to be acknowledged? Cenk seems to have the attitude of “Well, that’s just the way it is.”

The lesson that Cenk learned from the Canadian elections was that third parties were bad because they split the vote. It wasn’t that first-past-the-post is a ridiculous voting system. Cenk didn’t even mention it. It is like the concept that another voting system is possible is just completely foreign to him.

Maybe Cenk just fundamentally doesn’t understand math. When California switched to the non-partisan runoff primaries Cenk said something along the lines of “Oh, well now we can just get a progressive and a Democrat to face off in the general.” The new voting system didn’t stop vote splitting and even in a heavy blue states like California, it will still be rare for a Republican to not make it in the general.

Also, if you want to get CFR, the quickest way to do it is voting system reform first. The voting system can be done on a state level and doesn’t take an amendment. Once we implement approval voting, you can have a sizable block of people who can say , “We are only going to approve of candidates that will fight for a CFR amendment.” That and the threat of more competition will put our reps in line pretty quick.

  3. I was in a similar spot as Cenk (Obama or Stein in a non-swing state) but I went with Stein just with an eye toward helping her get a point or two in the popular vote. I know it’s basically irrelevant, and I hate how third parties treat elections as glorified polls.

But I think in general I’m getting in the mindset of the next four years trying to make a real effort to elect a third party candidate who actually reflects our views. For that, however, we need a real four year plan and execution, not an announcement in the spring of 2016 so that you all get rolled again…no offense Rocky Anderson, Stein, etc.

  4. Cenk, I almost totally agree with your prediction, except I’m fairly confident Obama will also pick up Virginia. Florida is a total toss-up and is strictly guessing: my hope is Obama but I’m not a voter there so I don’t really know. I do know the only person living there I know is voting Republican…

  5. Well if the hurricane ruined Romney’s momentum, doesn’t it prove that God doesn’t want him to win? I wonder what Pat Robertson thinks about that…

  6. All the talk about Romney winning is just priming the population for a stolen election. Memmo is in: Ohio will try to desinfranchise voters, so will Florida, so will basically anything republican with a pulse out there. They need to pre-empt the outrage that will definitely roll out if the election is stolen properly.

Imo it is better if Romney wins, just so we can get some serious opposition to the WH going in the population. This argument that you don’t win by loosing is bullshit; Obama is no win for us, he’s a bigger loss than Romney. We want motivation for organizing, not the polite black guy jerking us off while the ship of state steers into an iceberg. Which by the way will soon not exist.

    1. I wish id have read such an irresponsible comment before-this fallacy that “it needs to get much worse before it can get better” should be laid to rest forever-at least in the context of politics. Now its too late though, in about 12 hrs we’ll know the results. If elected romney would immediately steal even more rights of americans. He’d first do all he can to remove the sting out of any retaliation. The republicans are VERY thorough and organized, their game plan would already be ready-they’d have the brightest people with 6 figure salaries working with them, an apparatus donated by corporations(not that corporations aren’t going to “assist” democrats in fashioning legislation once they again control the senate). They would all collude to destroy the social safety nets and let the rich haul in even more wealth. All this would be done in a very subtle way -they wont advertise their buggery. Cenk once pointed out a very interesting research done by tom hartmann-In 1886 a clerk for the supreme court, who was part of the corporatocracy wrote a foot note to a case, the foot note said that corporations have the same rights as humans – that’s where corporations got the power to steal from the american people, they got more power, they bought politicians, the politicians began dismantling the social safety nets that were once the envy of the world and handing over the proceeds to corporations to continue the vicious cycle again. The point is, the republicans will attack the constitutional rights and the financial standing of ordinary american citizens in such a subtle and skillful way that NO ONE WILL EVEN notice- they will insert such nuanced & masterfully worded heinous laws into some obscure agriculture bill , aided by the smartest lawyers and former DAs and ADAs, even the most keen eyed liberal will be caught off guard. The situation will be like slow-boiling a frog in a vessel where in the beginning the water is cold and the temperature creeps up ever so slowly, the frog relaxes thinking all is well, till the water starts boiling and the frog gets cooked alive. Romney will then pass on the baton to the next guy-be he democrat or republican and we’ll have conceded even more of our rights without most of us even knowing- i mean come come on jail-breaking a tablet is now illegal. So be careful what you wish for.
Also for all the faults of “that polite black guy jerking us off”, he gave americans a legislation of tremendous use(flawed though that legislation may be) -atleast people will be able to get cover for pre-existing conditions-something that will part of the ether once romney gets elected.
Show some decency and dont simply start abusing people -there are other ways to let other people they are wrong. By being abusive, you ensure that no one will take you seriously in the future, it also shows that you lack proper judgement. I am sorry for getting into a muck slinging contest with you previously.

      1. No worries about shit fight, I was mostly kidding anyway, dickweed.

The stuff you describe Romney would do is exactly what Obama will do – without you even knowing it as you say, but more importantly without opposition from the senate or the population. I am not advocating ‘worse before better’, because it makes no sense. I am advocating for a fascist with no political power, rather than one with.

The legislation you talk about has locked US into the swamp of private health”care” for at least another decade at a time when the entire country was screaming for a public option. That took some skill and deception.

        1. Ok then fucktard -truce. Seriously I dont like to spew hatred on a fellow tyt member- cause we’re kinda on the same page, also u were right, i misunderstood what the guy was saying. Look I think ben or steve – i cant exactly recollect -has the same view as you, but romney would never have been “a fascist with no political power”. Yes i do concede that obama is “kind of” a trojan horse( obama’s really a politician, normal politicians sway to the polls. Its romney who would actively destroy the foundations of this country cause its his money he’s worried about).
My main point is -there is more than one way to skin a cat- even if democrats would oppose romney on everything (as if that would really happen) romney would have(obama’s winning NH !!!-im so happy this is a hypothetical) filled the various courts with republicans and then the republicans would have achieved their goal- making their thievery even more legal and genuine opposition more illegal. Its like what tom hagen says in the godfather-A lawyer with his briefcase can steal more than a hundred men with guns can, so total capture of the judiciary would have given these goombahs what they wanted.
Also is “dickweed” really a bad word -i mean i know the meaning – but it sounds so benign- it sounds like a good idea, u know your partner goes down on you and there’s an extra bonus down there- win-win in my opinion. Im not encouraging you to continue the flame wars fyi.
Also about obama care -i think you haven’t really had to deal with someone having a pre existing condtion in your family- Thank the lord for that ,but i do, and this particular clause makes the whole Affordable Care Act – diluted BS worth it for me atleast.

          1. Dear dickweed,

it doesn’t matter any longer, seeing that Obama already has picked up 274 electoral votes already, making a Mittanic a pending fact. What matters now is that each of us starts looking for ways to put pressure on the Obama WH and plan for a proper primary drive with a solid progressive candidate in 2016. If we drop the ball in the next 4 years, by 2020 our assholes are going to be the size of Sandy.

          2. Also sorry to hear about your family member. Healthcare, environmental care and every other necessity should be no different than tap water, but they make ways to have us worried about all the small stuff and excluding us from the decision making process.

            Yours truly
            fucktard

    2. Maybe a lot of talk on the major networks, but in “reality land” it’s almost guaranteed that Obama will be our next president. Don’t worry, the Congress will continue to block progress and people will still get pissed off. I doubt Romney would make much of a difference.

  7. DOES ANYONE ELSE FIND IT SUPER IRRITATING & IMPRACTICAL THAT WE HAVE TO FLIP BACK & FORTH BETWEEN YOUTUBE & HERE TO GET ALL THE CONTENT? EVEN FOR THE MAIN TYT CHANNEL???

      1. I think the word you are looking for is “what” not “whar”. Also your feeble attempt at humor is sad, so let it be.

p.s.-if someone has a concern that you cant even understand well enough to give a comprehensible answer to, then its best to keep quiet.

        1. Shut the f up, d**kweed. He asked a question, I want an answer to it. And his joke is hilarious, I am still laughing and I saw it 4 hours ago.

          1. of course his joke is hilarious -to a brain dead turd like you. What a depressingly sad loser you are- laughing for 4 hours over a brainless joke-go and get a life f**ktard

              1. the assholes are just coming out of the woodworks-oh btw try to be a bit original with the bad words (even though it may tax your brain)-ive seen your other comments xcm-boy people ignore you like the plague.

      2. @Ersen Akçay, i now understand what you were trying say-im really sorry for misunderstanding you & for making a uselessly snide comment. I assumed you knew what GoGreenLover was saying-i was wrong. The thing is tyt keeps some tasty morsels for their youtube viewers so that the channel’s viewcount can increase. For eg- the show “common room” where cool young guys like ricky and hot babes sit in a very casual setting with food and beer and talk about topics relevant to the younger generation-its not news but its pretty entertaining getting to know the viewpoints of the guys and girls-that show is only available on youtube AFAIK. Thats what GoGreenLover meant – tyt hour 1 & hour 2 we get on this website but other shows or content like common room are exclusively available on youtube. I bet you’d like common room-im sorry once again.

        1. Author

Pretty much everything on YouTube is also posted here. There are a few things that are youtube specific, but it wouldn’t make sense to post here.

          1. Kimani,
Will the coverage from yesterday be posted, or is it already and I don’t see it?
            Please let us know.

    1. It would be convenient for youtube to have private subscription/pay for content kind of options. Google would take some off the top for the service, but it would open up new options.

I don’t find it irritating or impractical, but it would be nice for it to be more convenient. I’m just glad I can get full episodes since I usually can’t watch it live (caught a few lately since they’ve switched to the night).

      1. what i meant is that there are clips on the main tyt channel that are not in hr 1 or 2 & i dont like wasting my time making sure that im not missing content…i only noticed recently because i also post the youtube vids….& thats not to mention the other content on the other channels obviously.
