Hour 1
Segment 1
Cenk, Ben, and John Iadarola hosting today. Video of Little Face Mitt. Talk about how Romney could win the popular vote and why Obama’s strong debate performances aren’t panning out as well as they should. Video of an ad from an arm of the AFL-CIO outlining how Bain Capital outsourced jobs to China and took down the American flag to accommodate them.

Segment 2
A convicted tax cheat was in the crowd of donors at Romney’s now infamous fundraiser where he bashed 47% of the country. After cheating on hundreds of thousands of dollars, his monetary fee for his crimes was only $30,000. President Obama finally openly said that if Romney gets in office, the SCOTUS will overturn Roe v. Wade. After Donald Trump’s offer to give $5 million to Obama to release his records, Michelle Malkin criticized him, and a Twitter fight ensued. Reinforcing President Obama’s point about bayonets and horses with a graph illustrating our Navy’s power since 1916, the time when we had more ships.

Segment 3
Video of John Sununu claiming that Gen Colin Powell endorsed President Obama because he’s Black. When talking about Obama’s “bullshitter” line to Rolling Stone, Sununu claimed that Obama has no class. Ben wonders why Obama even said bullshitter in the first place. Cenk explains that this was a political calculation since he was talking to Rolling Stone.

  1. We don’t all have cable, and we can’t watch CurrentTV on the net. There should be some overlap in the two shows. I feel like I pay exclusively for TYT online, but I miss out on whatever gets talked about on Current. Kind of off-putting.

    1. You’re not alone. I’m not interested in Current’s clips. I don’t have ADHD and prefer to just start the stream running so that I can listen to it while doing other things. I dislike having to continually click to get the next clip. I won’t watch a show that’s broken up into disjoint clips, especially when there are gaps between them. But if I could pay to watch the Current show online, I would. Unfortunately, that’s not an option.

      1. Isn’t that surprising? I’m surprised that a seemingly forward-thinking network doesn’t allow online streaming, but I can watch every episode of The Daily Show the day after it airs for free.

  2. Wow, everyone has an opinion! Here’s mine:

I haven’t even watched yet, but wow, Cenk, Ben AND John? My top three TYT hosts at once! My head is going to explode! What more can a girl ask for? :)

  3. Wow, lots of comments on the hosts this time.

My absolute favorite combos are Cenk & Ben in the first hour, and I feel like John and Ana are great together in the second hour. Really I’ve liked seeing John in whatever segments he’s been put in lately. I really like listening to him (I only get audio).

Man some of you people need to stop with the hate. Ten two ten two!!

  4. I really like John. The guy is smart and very quick on his feet. And the dynamic when he is on with Cenk and Ben is fabulous. You might think that putting one straight main with those two comics would be cruel and unusual punishment, but John keeps the show from running off the rails. (I do think that putting Lisa with John is cruel and unusual, but she’s just gonna have to learn to step on him a little more forcefully, like Ana does with Cenk. Unfortunately, she’s got the same challenge that Ana had with Cenk, except that John and LIsa are less passionate.)

Sadly, TYT has had only one woman since Jill who could go toe to toe with Cenk, Tina Dupuy, but they let her go. She got lost in TYT’s stupid marketing strategy of letting a new show exist only in broken up clips in some distant subchannel on YouTube. It’s too bad, really. She has what John doesn’t. I think TYT owes it both to her and to itself to put her on again, only this time by actually giving her show a chance.

One of these days, someone is going to notice the sexism that underlies everything that happens at TYT, but that probably won’t be until women get angry enough to start wearing fatigues to their protests again.

    1. I liked Cara Santa Maria. What happened to her? She is super smart on scientific topics, had strong opinions, and didn’t back down when confronted by forceful testosterone.

      1. I like her, too, although I have to force myself to not focus on that hunk of metal hanging off of her lip (Look, maybe I’m an older guy, but I’m still part of the audience. Some things are more drastic cultural changes than youngsters think, even if they’re simply compensations for the lack of more significant things.) But I don’t think they’ve done any science stories for a while, so she hasn’t been needed. On the other hand, if they make science and technical reporting a regular feature — which I think would be great — then they could use her regularly.

  5. I guess this is where all the Ben hate is so I’ll post here. First let me say that I value his opinion and knowledge of almost everything. That being said last Friday’s SCS was cringe worthy. I don’t know why but whenever he touched Ana, which happened about 4 times, something felt wrong. (Why do I feel like a snitch, all of a sudden?) Anyway, I guess we all have these feelings towards coworkers occasionally, but restraint, I guess, is the key to a happier me.
That’s all I really have to say on the matter. I hope he doesn’t do that in today’s SCS.

  6. Bad Lip Reading is funnier than Little Face Mitt, in my opinion. I’d love it if TYT talked about the multiple layers of complexity that the author of those videos may or may not have distantly intended.

  7. I’m so glad Ben is back more often. I still miss the daily interchanges between Cenk and him from years ago when I started watching with always fascinating Jill Pike…talk about letting us know what’s on her mind!

Hey, lay off John Iadarola! He’s coming along nicely. People all don’t have to fit into what you crabs choose to judge with your preconceived notions. Ease up and by all means, why not just SHUT IT for now?! He’ll grow on you.

  8. I love Ben! But I really dislike John. I wasn’t going to comment about my dislike of John because I thought he was going to be a very temporary host…but lately he’s been on the show almost everyday. I’m sure he’s a nice guy and all but he really gets on my nerves.

    1. That’s funny because I really like John. He obviously isn’t as deeply experienced as Cenk and Ben so the information and stories he brings are not as rich and varied. But nonetheless I think he contributes a lot and I listen in when he’s part of any show.

On the other hand, he’s not a traditional broadcasting personality which usually has to have an edge of some sort. John is too calm in terms of that traditional standard — very few things seem to push his buttons and send him into a rant.

      1. It seemed to me that John was steering the show, keeping it on track, for which I was very grateful. I love Ben and Cenk. They’re terrifically funny — especially together — and Ben brings insights to the discussion that might otherwise be missed. But when Cenk and Ben are together, they can launch the show into outer space at light speed, sometimes leaving the rest of us wondering where the hell they went. I always enjoy watching them, but I’m glad that John is there to keep them from wandering too far out of the solar system.

On the other hand, John has given some good rants on TYTU. He’s got a more relaxed manner that may make him appear to be less passionate, and that’s a good balance to Cenk and Ben, but I imagine that we’ll get to see him really go off sometime. At least, I hope so. Cenk is the best ranter in the business (he puts that unfunny right-wing hack and has-been Dennis Miller to shame), and Ben and Ana are no slouches, either. A fitting subtitle for TYT could be “The Rant Network”. John has big shoes to fill in that department.
