I believe ana mentioned that she has won awards in the past for her debating skills.
If you get bullied by three different group in three different school then something is wrong with you. So lets acknowledge that’s. If you get date-raped by three different ppl at three different occasions. Something is wrong with you too. I am not saying we should NOT punish the rapists. But you have to call it what it is no matter how ugly the crime is.
@ Capaneo: No, we don’t have to call it what ‘you’ think it is. That doesn’t prove anything. She was internet famous for a cruddy reason, that is why multiple groups bullied her. It wasn’t like it was a clean slate every time she got to a new school. Even if it was, just because people don’t like someone because of the way they are doesn’t justify bullying. I don’t care how you word your statement. That is basically what you are saying. You are saying that the person is partly to blame. Why do people have to change to live up to other’s standards?
I understand the perspective that you’re coming from, but don’t agree with it at all. Your implication is that if someone has problems that make them more susceptible to being wronged, then, even though the vicitimizers deserve punishment, the victims deserve their experience.
The philosophy that the “weak” somehow justify their own suffering by not being stronger and that there’s some lesser level of outrage, condescension and suffering that they deserve is like blaming a gazelle for not being fast enough to outrun a cheetah.
Has ever done a professional debate before? I have a feeling that she is going to get crushed.
Ana and Steve are right. I went to a Jr High with a lot of violence, including against teachers. And even if a teacher see’s something, they now have to worry about what may happen to them for intervening if they have to grab and restrain someone. I also think many things for the public overall, but especially our youth, are exacerbated by technology having progressed so quickly that laws and public awareness hasn’t caught up. Everyone in your school knowing something embarrassing is one thing – having something go online worldwide and following you around — a whole new level.
WHAT THE FUCK NEWS TEAM?!
Top Ten ways to rape people and not get caught. Lets show everyone who’s watching what’s on the list! What were those people thinking?
I just have to say, I hate everyone using the term pedophile for people being attracted to others under 18! Pedophilia is when people are sexually attracted to PRE-PUBESCENT people. This one is Hebephilia (11-14). And a lot of other times it’s Ephebophilia (15-19).
I just can’t take Ana seriously when it comes to bullying stories, I was so glad when Steve Oh jumped in and mentioned how unworkable her ideas are. She has good points on many things but her bias on bullying is way too strong
furthermore, if his actions are illegal then shouldn’t the police be involved. did you JUST get through saying how you don’t support vigilante justice? or is it more accurate to say you only support vigilante justice that matches your personal preferences?
the total lapse in logical consistency these two display regularly is making the second hour even more unwatchable.
I don’t think they should have outted violentacrez. He basically was the person that picked up the torch to be the mods of subreddits that could be seen as gross or creepy, but they were not illegal. He may have liked that stuff, I don’t know which things he liked. There are tens of thousands of users and they can all post content, and there will continue to be the same content, even on reddit, without violentacrez there. He was indeed a noted troll, but there are thousands on reddit. There will continue to be trolling and this will only bring backlash and increase trolling. Non-mods have zero risk of being outted, so it’s literally pointless to try to curb trolling in this way.
This was only an attempt to pressure reddit to ban creepshot subreddit. They gave it negative press and put it into the spotlight and threatened them in this way. While creepshot was creepy yes, so are many subreddits, like /r/wtf, where they post candid pictures of fat or ugly people without their permission all the time. This is obvious hypocrisy where extreme people pushed the issue to create a flood of white knights wanting to protect these woman from candid photos…. even though ALL the same stuff will continue to go on in different subreddits or different websites. It’s nothing more or less than them settling a grudge to feel better about themselves.
what some guy said things that people find offensive on the internet? better out him and get rid of any right to privacy he has. Shocking as it may seem Anna but even people you don’t agree with have rights.
It always annoys the hell out of me when people say that bullied kids should ”suck it up” because ”this is the real world.”
No, it’s NOT the real world. If you bully someone at work you get penalized. If you sexually or physically harass someone at work, your ass is fired and possibly charged. If you and your asshole friends gang up on a neighbor you don’t like and you guys beat him up, you go to prison. This shit is not tolerated.
If it’s not acceptable to bully people in the workplace or otherwise in real life, then how is it acceptable to do it to a CHILD? They are in a much, much more vulnerable stage of development than adults are – and they don’t have the means to defend themselves.
God this Amanda Todd story pisses me off. As someone who suffers from serious major depression and anxiety (two of the disorders that she had), it makes me SO upset to see people who haven’t gone through these disorders judge Amanda and insult her as being ‘weak’ for killing herself. Most suicide victims didn’t want to die. i’ve been suicidal (no attempts or anything, though) and and *I* didn’t want to die, either. Suicide victims do it because, even though they want to live, they feel helpless and feel that killing themselves is the only way to stop feeling so much pain.
And if I felt that horrible with barely any outside factors (mine is almost purely genetic), I can’t imagine how bad she felt dealing with these disorders AND being stalked and verbally/physically abused. It’s not right. It’s just not right to judge and insult a person who was in so much pain that the thought of suicide even crossed their minds in the first place.
/ end rant.
Thanks for that Migu. You’re 100% right.
