Comments

  1. I gotta disagree with Ana on the bus driver incident.

I’m a girl. Just as I have the right to defend myself if one of my male friends punched me in the face, my male friends have the right to defend themselves if I go up and bash them in the face with a phonebook. Once you provoke a physical altercation, you have NO right to complain when the other person hits you back.

Although, to be honest, I think he used too much force when the bus driver hit that woman. That uppercut was BRUTAL. But hey – that’s why you shouldn’t go around causing problems and hitting people, regardless of whether you’re a man or a woman.

  2. I have to agree with most of everyone here on the bus driver incident.

First of all, I take public transit everywhere and I’m lucky to live in an area that has a good statewide public transit system. And as a person who takes public transit all the time, I do see people who are obnoxious, annoying, disrespectful, drunk, high and everything in between. Some of the bus drivers don’t do anything about it, but some do. But here’s the major whole in your argument here TYT, when the buses are riding around, they are sometimes in areas where the police are not and sometimes the driver has to take matters into their own hands. I’m not advocating that he should have hit her, but even if he wanted to get her off the bus, he would have had to use force to do it.

Secondly, if she was able to take a punch like that and still be standing, she’s been in a few fights before and I’m pretty sure she can hold her own. If she wanted to get “all hood” (to use Ana’s words) on the bus, she should be aware of the consequences of her actions. If she were on the street and did it to someone else, the same thing probably would have happened.

Thirdly, I think that by getting this girl off the bus (whether with force or without) the driver was looking out for the passengers. As I’ve said before, I take public transit everywhere and there’s never a moment where I’m completely comfortable because you don’t know if someone has a gun or a knife on them. The way this girl was talking and acting, I wouldn’t be surprised if she did have a weapon on her.

And lastly, that whole argument about the girl should never have been hit by the bus driver is ridiculous. I’m sorry, I’ve always learned that you should expect to get the same treatment and the same consequences for your actions as everyone else. It’s unfair to say that she shouldn’t have been hit by him simply because it’s a man hitting a woman. I’m sure the narrative on today’s show would have been completely different if it were a female bus driver. Don’t talk sideways about someone to their face and not expect to get smacked; that’s what happened to her. Also, judging from this girl’s demeanor and inability to express herself without dropping the n-word or saying bitch, I bet money that she is probably talking about how hard she is to all her friends because she took that punch.

  3. I think Ana’s position is complete shit on the bus driver topic. You can’t advocate for equal rights but then cry foul when a woman acts like a complete assclown and gets knocked out.

I don’t think men should commit violence against women domestically. But in the real world, equality means bad behavior has the same consequences. I don’t think it was wrong for the bus driver to throw her from the bus based on her behavior. He probably could have done it with out hitting her so therein lies his biggest mistake. But let’s be real, if you talk massive shit and provoke a stranger who is capable of things you are not aware, it’s your own damn fault. Woman or man, you’re gonna get whats coming to you and you 100% could have avoided it using better judgement.

    1. When I say complete shit, I mean thinking about yourself in that situation and calling authorities, doing things by the book, that doesn’t happen all the time. Dude reacted as anybody would have. Put yourself in the driver’s shoes and you’re likely fist fighting after that.

Kind of miss Cenk for that clip. At least he would have replayed it a couple times.

      1. How about we say it’s not okay to hit anyone outside of self defense? Retaliation is rather different from defending yourself and he was in no danger when he hit her. Calling the cops/pressing charges would of been the sensible thing to do – attacking someone (especially in such a vicious manner) was not. I’d say the same thing if it was two men.

  4. Guys…a bit more research here.

It is a felony to attack a public worker, such as a bus driver.

She committed a felony when she harassed and then assaulted him.

Regardless if he assaulted her back, she is (or should be) in far more trouble for what she did.

Also, you guys should have discussed the clear hypocrisy in men on women violence, versus woman on man violence. If women want to be treated equally, then they should be. Period.

What if things were reversed and a women bus driver knocked out a younger, male passenger? Would your conclusion have been the same? Doubt it.

    1. I have to disagree.

The point is that man clearly had more power than her and had the ability to restrain her. My niece will get bold and come hit me; that does not give me the right to punch her in the face. I am clearly stronger than a 4 year old as a 24 year old.

He literally could’ve killed her. I think it’s disgusting that you would even defend something like that. And I am a full supporter of women not hitting men. Women should not be putting their hands on men because they know of the bias in the nation and therefore, most times, can get away with it.

Resorting to punching and hitting means you’ve lost the argument. But as someone who is clearly much larger and more powerful, you have a responsibility to control yourself. From what I saw, the woman pushed him.

She didn’t have a weapon, she clearly wasn’t THAT strong, and even if she punched him, it is clearly not going to be as physically devastating as a punch from him.

  5. Regarding the last segment with the busdriver:

All I can picture when I see this video is the Ron Burgundy meme “Well… That escalated quickly!”

  6. there’s got to be a shoryuken gif for the punch…holy hell, never seen one so clean. He even had time to crouch a little bit and strike. You’re goin to hell now!! (I don’t think he said jail).

It was wrong though. Awesomely wrong.

  7. Words should never be answered with violence ever. Violence should be met with reasonable force, determined by the threat presented.

If Christiane Santos was trying to actually kick the crap out of me, she’s a trained martial artist. Yeah I’d hit back and defend myself but I’m also 6’2 and 230 lbs. I’m not going to sock a much smaller person, woman or not, just to “shut them up”.

The driver has a radio. He stops the bus, radios for a police car and has the woman removed and fined for harassing him.

  8. Are you guys serious about that man punching the woman video? I guess you guys have never heard of that website that kept popping around (World star hip hop). It’s nothing but trashy videos of (usually black people) fighting.

And I hate when people say a man can’t hit a woman. Women want equal rights. So much that they even attack men a lot more than they did. You’re either saying women are better than men and they can’t be touched, or women are weaker than men and can’t be touched. Either are kind of bad. It’s not like he beat the shit out of her. Just a punch to shut her up.

  9. Those who have watched TYT for a long time know Ana is pretty biased in the case of bullying. Hell, she would constantly say how she hates zero tolerance policies, then goes around and says girls who harass other girls in schools should automatically be expelled.

I was bullied a ton in school. I stood up for myself and became a better person for it. If you say it can be a group of people on one person, then make friends for back up. That’s just how life is.

    1. I’d say Ana speaks out against zero tolerance because it encourages thoughtless decision making on the behalf of the administrators. (IE: Expelling a kid because he brought in a toy gun or made a single gesture.)

      .

It kind of sounds like you’re trying to talk yourself up in that second post. Did you forget that they were talking about this in the context of the little girl that committed suicide? Are you saying that she came out of that experience a better person? Or are you saying that she deserved it for not finding a support group as you did?

      1. The two posts are completely different posts. That’s why they were made thirty minutes between each other.

And it’s not exactly in the context of the girl who committed suicide. Ana was just saying how she despises all bullies. Besides, it’s not like the bullies killed her. She committed suicide herself, which means it was her choice. Some people can take it and some can’t. You can’t have a zero tolerance policy for all bullies.
