Ugh …. The 2nd hour has become unbearable while Cenk is away. I completely understand the “most of our crew went to cover the convention and we are understaffed argument” …. HOWEVER that does not excuse lack of basic fact-checking and professionalism on air. TYT has a star lineup of potential substitute 2nd hour hosts like Brian Unger, Cara Santa Maria, Ben, Wes Clark Jr, etc etc.

Wow, I find Ricky genuinely annoying. Other than that, I understand the show is understaffed and there most be lots of work everyone to do. But, yeah, Ricky.. shhhh. These topics are ok with some irony involved but, yeah, too awkward.
Gotta side with deniz here, even without watching – even my gal said the other day how in the 2nd hour you guys don’t even bother to find out simple facts. I think it’s valid criticism – don’t lose the fun, but up the professionalism.
We decided not to pursue that topic in a postgame, sorry guys.

When someone puts together a funded campaign meant to look like a grassroots initiative, it’s called astroturf. What do we call propping up a fake pro-marijuana organization to help you get the medicinal marijuana/legalization vote, oregano?
Guys, I love you and all, but this second hour crap as of late has got to stop. It’s amateurish.
People yelling off camera. What is this, a frat party? Are you doing the news, or are you hanging out with your buddies?
“15,900 dollars. I don’t know, that might be a lot in Thailand”. This is EASY to look up. The number of “I don’t know”s going on are increasing. How about just having people check BEFORE the show? Even during the show. Couldn’t somebody have just checked that and signalled to Ana: “yeah, that is equivalent to our 50,000” or whatever it might be?
I know the second hour is supposed to be light-hearted, but that doesn’t mean unprofessional. It sounds like a bunch of 20-somethings are just hanging out together. No offense to 20-somethings.
Take a listen to the second hour when Cenk is around, and what you guys are doing with it. You’ll notice the change in tone, quality and professionalism. I guess I’m trying to say, I’m looking forward to Cenk coming back. I’m skipping the second hour until that happens.
Alrighty. Turned it off at the “road head” part. Not the subject, again, the quality. Jesus guys. Now it’s a bragging session? Ricki, get it together.
I said 20-somethings were randomly throwing news together earlier, but I was wrong. This is teenager stuff. As another commenter put it, this is chat-room stuff. Grow up. Do a show. Hey, if you’re feeling nuts, try throwing in some maturity and professionalism.

They have less than half a staff these past two weeks, so if it seems unprofessional it’s because in a way it kind of is. Imagine if at your work you were forced to break down groups into three teams: a traveling group, a east coast group, and a west coast group. From these groups you have two shows to produce, and the 1st Hour has to be the group to support you on network television and your third group needs to have the tenacity to ask really tough questions to powerful figures.
So for those two groups mentioned your going to send who, the most experienced, because those groups cannot waiver, so your two shoot crew aka the 2nd hour is going to be those who are on The Young Turks who haven’t worked in television too long, and it might get a little silly.
Also the ability to share new stories that each member finds is more difficult. I don’t know how The Young Turks operates, but if Anna is always searching one type of story or just three news sites, then the 2nd Hour isn’t going to be as diverse as it normally would. This style isn’t going to be on long and due to helpful comments like yours, (I am being serious) This type of unprofessional-ism will not happen again.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I’m in no way criticizing their content – I hope I was clear enough about that. It’s more the delivery. Bragging about your sexual exploits, shouting off camera – these are not acceptable modes of conduct. Regardless of how “fun” this hour is, it still demands respect to the audience members.
As to your point about being understaffed: Of course I understand that. I have no real criticism of the types of stories other than disappointment. Just the delivery (as noted above). But allow me to criticize a little here, in retrospect: They knew this was coming, they could have taken their precaution. In my work, I don’t have to imagine breaking my team up – I generally need to. But when I know that a situation that calls for a staff reduction is coming, I take the necessary precautions, are bring in extra help.
And just as a personal preference (I completely understand if you or anyone does not agree), I would rather not put out a product than put out a defective product. They’re doing hour 2 because they say they can. In which case, I expect them to. Quality and all.
Amen. Cenk and the veteran staff went to NY and forgot to leave an adult in charge in LA. I think TYT is expanding too fast and the competent experienced staff is spread too thin to keep up the quality of the main show. The ongoing website fiasco that began over a month ago should never have happened either. Cenk or whoever does the hiring needs to get some technical people on board who know what they are doing. The overall production and content quality of the main show has been significantly diminished in recent weeks and so forth and so on.
So what happened to the road head post game? I’ve gotten it before. If the person giving is any good, you shouldn’t do it while driving. Luckily, I was on vacant back roads when I was getting it.

I don’t mind when Ana talks about stuff, but when random guys are just yelling about their own personal sex lives off-camera while the show goes on, it seems pretty creepy.

I’m with Ana 100%! Road head is WRONG!!! I can’t believe that Ricky is being so immature as the actually brag about doing something so irresponsible. There’s no way you can enjoy head without being distracted, and being distracted in (what amounts to) a 1- to 3-ton PROJECTILE puts other people (pedestrians, other drivers, etc.) at risk. (How is this any different than driving drunk?) I can only hope that Ricky is trying to pull our legs on this. Either way, it’s just plain WRONG. Some young idiot might take him seriously, and think it might be a “cool” thing to emulate. Shame on you, Ricky! You ought to disavow this behavior immediately, whether it’s true or not.
